Small companies are adopting AI faster than big ones. And it's not about budget or access - it's about mindset. When survival is on the line, every hour of waste is visible. Small teams can't afford redundant processes, slow decisions, or tools that don't pull their weight. AI fits perfectly into that world - it's cheap, fast, and multiplies a small team's output in ways that used to require headcount. Big enterprises? Different story. Budgets absorb inefficiency. Headcount masks it. And when the machine is already running, there's no burning platform - yet - to justify change. The question stops being "how do we do more with less" and starts being "who owns the AI governance committee." The irony is that large companies have the most to gain from AI - and the least urgency to act. So they run pilots, form working groups, and purchase Copilot licenses for everyone. Checkbox ticked. Meanwhile, a 10-person startup just automated three of your departments over the weekend. The efficiency mindset isn't something you buy. It's something you either have - or you don't. And right now, the companies that have it are moving. The ones that don't are scheduling a meeting to discuss it. #ai #aiproductivity #futureofwork #aiadoption #engineeringleadership
Apr 2026I am happy to share that last month I joined Janus Electric (ASX:JNS) as Chief Financial Officer. Janus is tackling one of the harder problems in the energy transition, electrifying heavy road transport globally with a capital efficient and scalable model. I look forward to working with Ben Hutt and the entire Janus Electric Team as we focus on execution, scaling the business, and delivering the next phase of growth.
Apr 2026Such a special morning at Hobsons Bay City Council helping to ‘plant’ hundreds of beautiful hand knitted poppies, in preparation for ANZAC day at the Civic Centre around the eternal flame. I am photographed here with Sharon Walsh, the organiser, who has been doing this for many years as part of the arts and community initiatives at Council. 😊❤️ Janet Dawes Hector Gaston Phu Nguyen GAICD I FCPA
