Over the last few weeks, I’ve had the fortune of participating in two panel conversations with Lloyd’s-adjacent audiences in London, one as a panellist and one as moderator; both focused on AI topics at different ends of the insurance value chain that rhymed - from placement through to claims. In both, I’d left the panellists and attendees with a plea — start the hard work. And, put a relentless focus on embedding AI into core processes from the bottom-up. Just like investing early in life, the compounding AI knowledge, learning, and experience will matter. Take action sooner not later as early movement will separate the winners and losers. Despite each having a different audience, the same themes were prevalent — data, technology, and AI are fundamentally changing the insurance business. Yet, importantly, in this time of accelerated evolution and puffy-chested discourse, how does one filter signal from the noise, what’s real and what’s hype, and who is leading and who is lagging? At Lloyd's Lab, the conversation focused on AI in claims, telematics in transportation, and the client’s expectation for a first-class experience. My takeaway: agentic systems will properly compress the FNOL to payment cycle time and drive better, more consistent, repeatable outcomes — both at pace and at scale. A showcase of our teams’ new AI claims routing platform put a clear spotlight on this. Organizations will differentiate themselves by building agentic systems directly into core processes with the right data, governance, and operating model behind it. Efficiencies, combined ratios, and core financials will show it. Reductions in the core process cycle times (e.g. claims adjudication) might even be *the* best leading indicators; comparators for who’s winning and losing in the AI arms race across the broader swatch of financial services. At our Acrisure Re Consortium Forum, the discussion centered on a related question: how data, technology, and AI will shape the future of syndicate collaborations via consortia and broker facilities. We considered where technology is improving underwriting and placement, where data quality still creates drag unless there's semantic abstractions, whether stronger infrastructure is becoming a real advantage, and how to attract top talent in an age where forward-deployed engineering has properly come into vogue. Another takeaway: there’s opportunity to band together those that are on the front-edge and front-foot; locking arms and forming a network of organizations — carriers, distribution, tech startups, model providers, talent acquisition — will raise the network together. Follow the tide, it lifts all boats. Thanks to everyone who helped shape these conversations: Matteo Carbone , Neil Keeble , Spencer Mitchell , Christopher Moore , Mark Tuchmann , Bim Afolami , Jake Baillie , Reid Stanway , Farris Salah , Elizabeth Wooliston , & Daniel Prince .
May 2026Last friday…..yes - the Acrisure Ampitheater opened (and it was amazing!)….but it was also our closing session for Leadership Grand Rapids and we became the 40th class of graduates of community trustees. May 2026As I wrap up my final day at Acrisure, I'm taking a moment to reflect on an incredible journey. I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to have developed and led a truly elite cyber program, but my greatest privilege over these past six and a half years has been working alongside such an extraordinary team of engineers. Together, we tackled the complex challenges that come with rocketship growth, adapted to a constantly shifting threat landscape, and built a culture of resilience that I am incredibly proud of. Your dedication, brilliance, and camaraderie have been the absolute highlight of my time here. I have learned so much from this team's technical expertise and relentless drive. Building a world-class security posture from the ground up takes vision and grit, and we brought both to the table every single day. I'm stepping away immensely proud of what we've accomplished together and excited to see where this phenomenal team goes next. Thank you to everyone who made this experience so memorable. I will always be cheering you on from the sidelines.
May 2026Is "no complaints" actually a good measure of how well you're serving your clients? Here's what I've come to understand after 20+ years in transportation insurance: The clients who never complain aren't always the ones who are fully protected. Sometimes they're just the ones who haven't had a claim yet. The gaps that hurt people most aren't the obvious ones. They're the details that quietly fall through: A driver added mid-year A contract that shifted liability An operation that grew faster than the policy did. Nobody flags those. Nobody calls about them. Until it's too late. The advisors who build real, lasting relationships in this business aren't just the ones who process cleanly. They're the ones who show up before the problem does. That's the standard worth measuring yourself against. Not "did they complain?" But "would they have been okay if something went wrong?" Let me know your thoughts! #InsuranceLeadership #Acrisure #TransportationInsurance #RiskManagement #InsuranceAdvisors #ClientFirst #Leadership
