LinkedInJob Market

This post is a small follow up to my previous post(Refer first comment) about the job situation in Germany. One of my friends shared the summary of the challenges he faced and I think it's really valuable to share it. "My Opportunity Card Journey — An Honest Account When Germany launched the Opportunity Card in June 2024, I was excited and ready. I was already learning German at the A2 level and believed this was my chance to build a better future abroad. But excitement made me vulnerable. Consultants approached me from every direction, and I fell into the first trap — I paid ₹50,000 to one of them. Within a month, they shut down and disappeared. That loss forced me to slow down and think clearly. I started researching the process myself, step by step, and discovered something important: it is not complicated at all. I processed my own application, secured a VFS Global appointment in September, opened a blocked account through Expatrio, and arranged my health insurance through them as well. The second trap came when I tried to find accommodation from India. Facebook and WhatsApp groups were full of fraud listings. They asked for document processing fees of around €200, took the money, and vanished. I lost more money before I even boarded a plane. Despite everything, I landed in Germany on January 1, 2025. In that moment, I felt like one of the most fortunate people in the world. Reality arrived quickly. My German was not fluent enough for most jobs, and rejections came one after another. I joined Euro Basha's online German classes to keep improving. The job market itself was struggling — Germany was going through an economic slowdown, and global trade pressures made things even harder. I had over five years of professional experience. Friends referred me to their companies. Still, only rejections came back. Eventually I found a part-time role at TK Maxx, which gave me a small but important boost of confidence. More obstacles followed. A landlord refused to return my deposit when I moved. Another accommodation I had selected kept stalling despite me submitting every document they asked for. With my visa nearing its expiry, and with encouragement from friends who said I now understood the process well enough to reapply from India, I made the decision to come home. That was four months ago. I am still in India, still looking for work, and honestly my confidence is low right now. It is hard to focus. It is hard to feel certain about anything. But I am sharing this because others need to know: the Opportunity Card process itself is manageable. What is not manageable is the ecosystem of people waiting to take advantage of those who are hopeful and uninformed. Do not pay consultants for something you can do yourself. Do not send money to strangers on Facebook for accommodation. Trust the official process, trust yourself, and give yourself time to learn before you act. This is not the end of my story. It is just an honest chapter of it."
