I’m taking a step back from flight school and flying lessons for a season. Not because the dream has changed, NO. (nimejiita ka mkutano hapa) I’ve had to get real about what fuels it. And right now, that fuel is financial. The wells are dry, and even renewing my PPL now comes down to funding. And that’s just the hard truth. So I’m pausing. Regrouping. Refocusing. (And any other “RE” that comes to mind) In the meantime, I’m leaning fully into storytelling and media production; that means telling stories on the ground while I find my way back to the skies, and somewhere new. Is it Bittersweet? Very much so Smh 🤦🏾♂️ (well… nitajipanga) Deep down I believe everything happens and works for a good reason. Mungu Halali! I’ll return to the skies when the right time, the right place, and when the resources align. This isn’t the end. #NewSky #StoriesThatFly #MunguHalali ✈️
May 2026In the air again and heading for Detroit. This time it’s for our US Alfa Connect. I’m super excited to be able to spend time with our customers exchanging ideas and best practices, sharing cool capabilities and functionality, and enjoying social time of course. Plus I’ll have the pleasure of hosting a “fireside chat” with someone who has been a customer for the entirety of our journey in the US!! And of course, I’m travelling in the obligatory 90s band tee. #wearealfa
Apr 2026Got along to the Google DeepMind Gemini Builders Event this week. A solid snapshot of where things are heading. A few things that stood out: - Gemma models are a big deal. Small, efficient, and much more viable for edge, mobile, and fine tuning your own small models. The Apache 2.0 licensing unlocks a wave of practical use cases where latency, cost, and data locality really matter. - For those who like to tinker: the Google AI Edge app allows you to run Gemma on your mobile. And as the photo shows, even the 2B model is already pretty capable for things like text extraction on-device. Will be interesting to see with the license changes if this drives a new wave of mobile apps... - Multi-agent patterns are improving consistency. Orchestrating multiple models with defined roles/personas is starting to feel more reliable than single-shot prompting. Still early, but promising for cases where determinism and control matter as it's easier to test, trace, and evaluate each step. - “Skills” might be the new API layer. Google have leaned into this, and if skills become reusable across models and providers, that’s where things could get interesting. - Multimodal keeps getting stronger. A range of tools on show across text, image, audio, and video. Still a lot of untapped potential here, particularly for extracting insight from unstructured data. And if you haven’t seen Genie 3 yet, worth a look…
