AI Series: Post 62 — Why Agent State Becomes Your Biggest Problem (Not the Model) When I started building agents, I thought prompts were the hard part. I was wrong. The real challenge was managing state across steps. Agents do not run once. They evolve through multiple steps. >> What I started seeing : • State getting overwritten • Missing context between steps • Incorrect outputs due to stale data • Debugging becoming impossible The model was fine. The state was broken. >> Why this happens : • No clear state structure • No versioning of state • No checkpoints • Multiple agents updating same data State becomes unpredictable. >> What I changed : • Defined structured state schema • Used checkpoints between steps • Logged state transitions • Restricted who can update what Now behavior is consistent. >> Why this matters : • Agents depend on state more than prompts • Bad state = bad decisions • Good state = predictable systems State is the backbone of agents. >> Takeaway : • Prompts guide the model • State guides the system • System quality depends on state design Fix your state before fixing your prompts. *** Small steps, real gains 1% each day. Apr 2026🚀 Is prompt engineering just a "placeholder" skill while we wait for smarter AI? The debate is shifting rapidly in 2026. Many predicted that better models would make prompting obsolete. They thought the "AI whisperer" was a temporary phenomenon. But recent research suggests something different is happening. Prompting isn't dying. It’s professionalizing. We are moving from trial-and-error "magic words" to a disciplined field of Context Engineering. Think of it like the evolution of the search engine. In the 90s, searching was a niche skill. Today, everyone knows how to search, yet "Search Engine Optimization" is a multi-billion dollar foundational industry. Here is what the data for 2025 and 2026 tells us: 1. THE SHIFT TO AGENTIC WORKFLOWS Prompting a chatbot for a single answer is becoming less common. Instead, we are prompting "agents" to run entire workflows. One prompt might now trigger a chain of five different tools. 2. FROM TEXT TO INFRASTRUCTURE Prompt engineering has moved into the dev stack. We now see Prompt SDKs where instructions are treated like software dependencies—version-controlled, tested, and optimized for latency. 3. THE CONTEXT WINDOW IS THE NEW RAM Top practitioners are focusing less on "clever wording" and more on "context management." It is about knowing exactly which data to feed the model’s working memory to get the highest precision output. The "job title" of Prompt Engineer might be fading, but the "discipline" is becoming a core part ... #GenAI #PromptEngineering #Context
Apr 2026I’ve been evaluating 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗟𝗠𝘀 vs 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 — and copilots clearly outperform. The gap isn’t just model quality; it’s the 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 + 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗥𝗔𝗚 that is implemented for copilots. Models alone can’t deliver that level of capability. Copilots don’t just generate code — they plan, retrieve across the codebase, and iterate with context. Without this layer, local setups 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲 with multi-file reasoning and architectural changes. Have you managed to replicate this effectively in a local setup? #LocalLLM #GitHubCopilot #GenAI
Apr 2026🚨 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 & 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 “𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱-𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴” 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 “𝗡𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴” Geopolitical tensions, Sea disruptions, and tariff wars have made single-country sourcing too risky. Smart organisations are now moving from “lowest-cost” to “resilient & trusted” sourcing — building supplier ecosystems in friendly, stable countries that share values, data security standards, and long-term supply reliability. In my last role leading a Procurement Center of Excellence, we redesigned our category strategy to include 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱-𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 as a core pillar. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 ✅ Significantly stronger supply continuity ✅ Reduced exposure to single-region shocks. ✅ Better cost stability even in volatile markets 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝟴𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗣𝗢𝘀 now list supply resilience as their #1 priority (higher than pure cost savings). The winners are those who combine AI-powered risk monitoring + diversified, friend-shored supplier bases + sustainable/ESG alignment. Procurement is no longer just about buying cheaper. It’s about building supply chains that can 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 in an unpredictable world. What’s your biggest supply chain resilience move in 2026 — Friend-shoring, nearshoring, or something else? Share in the comments 👇 I’m reading every one and happy to exchange ideas. #ProcurementLeadership #StrategicSourcing #SupplyChainResilience #FriendShoring #GlobalSourcing #SupplyChain2026 #ProcurementTrends #GCC #ESGProcurement
Apr 2026The AI Catch‑22 The $20/month pricing for Claude and ChatGPT works because most users don’t fully consume the available compute. That assumption is breaking. As AI becomes a default layer for analysis, coding, and reasoning, token consumption is accelerating rapidly. Fixed subscription plans with capped usage are increasingly insufficient for serious, day‑to‑day work. This creates a structural dilemma. Raise prices and risk slowing adoption. Hold prices and continue absorbing billions in compute costs. AI demand is compounding faster than current pricing models can sustainably support. The real question is not if this changes, but who blinks first.
Apr 2026🚨 Procurement leaders: 2026 is not about “using AI” anymore. It’s about becoming AI-Native. Most teams are still bolting AI onto old processes. The real winners are redesigning procurement from the ground up with Agentic AI — autonomous agents that don’t just analyse data, but actually act: supplier evaluation, risk monitoring, contract redlining, and even initiating sourcing events. In my last role leading the Procurement Center of Excellence for a Fortune 500 Oil & Gas client via Global Capability Center (GCC), we moved from reactive sourcing to a true AI-powered 7-step category strategy framework. The result was clear: - Strong productivity uplift - Inflation impact managed well below market levels - Procurement transformed into a genuine value driver 2026 reality check: Talent gaps are widening. Budgets are flat. Workloads are rising 10%. The only sustainable edge is orchestration + intelligence — clean data, governed workflows, and AI agents that free leaders for strategy, not spreadsheets. The question isn’t whether AI will transform procurement. The question is: Will your function lead the transformation… or be disrupted by it? What’s one AI initiative you’re piloting (or planning) in 2026? Drop it in the comments — I’d love to exchange ideas. #ProcurementLeadership #StrategicSourcing #AIinProcurement #DigitalTransformation #AgenticAI #SupplyChain2026 #ProcurementTrends #GCC #SustainableProcurement
