May 2026More than 30 years ago, the American Academy of Family Physicians approved its Health Care for All policy, calling for a U.S. health care system that provides coverage for everyone through comprehensive, coordinated primary care. While inequities in our health care system persist, family physicians play a vital role in helping address them. Through lifelong relationships with patients and their families, family physicians see firsthand the factors that shape health and advocate for their communities every day. During National Minority Health Month, and every month, the AAFP is proud of the family physicians who are championing health equity in their communities. Throughout the month, we’ll share evidence-based resources and highlight physicians whose advocacy is helping improve health outcomes. There is still much work to do to make health care more accessible, affordable and equitable for all. The AAFP remains committed to supporting our members and advocating for policies that strengthen primary care and advance better health for every community.
