JCON 2026 The last couple of days I’ve spend at JCON #Europe in #Cologne , #Germany and it was (again) a blast. The vibe this conference creates is outstanding, you can really feel it which is just great. My session was about the #Java #Virtual #Machine in general which was (to my surprise) well received. Over the last couple of years I found more and more people that knew everything about the latest and greatest technology but didn’t really knew how the tool they use their great frameworks on, the #JVM really works. So I thought why not creating a session about the JVM itself…well that wasn’t easy because it is made of so many engineering masterpieces that it was super hard to squeeze the most important parts into 45 min. It was about compiling #Java code into #Byte code, loading this from class files into the JVM memory. I’ve explained a little bit about the memory management with it’s #Garbage #Collection mechanism and finally the #Execution #Engine where the byte code will be #interpreted , #compiled and #optimized for max #performance . I’ve only scratched the surface of all these things but I hope the attendees got it. Working at Azul makes the whole #Java #Virtual #Machine an important part of my job (esp. because we have our own #JVM named #Azul #Zing ) and with this I’m interested in having as many people as possible knowing about the #JVM and how it works. 😁 Another thing that was awesome at JCON was the fact that I finally had the chance to meet my new colleagues from Payara in person, it was really great talking to you. This week was a special one and I think in the meantime I know which was the central thing that made this week so great…there is one person that I would like to call out here… Richard Fichtner from XDEV Software . He and his team made this conference possible but there is more to this, Richard is a person that you can only like, always friendly, honest, knowledgeable, open minded and just an all alround great guy. So my advice for everyone that is reading this, let’s try to make this world a better place and try to be a little bit like Richard…just a little bit #awesome …🫶🏻
Apr 2026@Q2 launches Q2 Code—a governed AI development environment built with Anthropic's Claude Code and Amazon Bedrock that's changing how banks and credit unions extend their digital banking capabilities. Q2 Code turns natural language prompts into production-ready extensions and integrations on the Q2 Digital Banking Platform. Financial institutions can now move from concept to working code in days instead of weeks, while maintaining the governance frameworks regulators expect. AWS is enabling financial institutions to build faster without compromising on security or compliance.

Apr 2026Drug discovery has always been constrained by time, cost, and access to expertise. AWS introduced Amazon Bio Discovery, a new application that helps scientists design and test drugs faster using AI. Scientists can use an AI agent to select the right models, design experiments, and send top candidates directly to lab partners for testing. Results feed back into the system to improve the next round of design. In partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center , the team designed antibody candidates for pediatric cancer therapies in weeks.
