Banks have invested heavily in their technology over many years. The opportunity today is to unlock more value from those investments by simplifying the digital experience and making innovation faster. Our Banking OS helps banks shift investment away from maintaining complexity and towards creating measurable business value. Contact me via private message to find out more. Aug 20261500s. 2000s. 2026. Three eras of banking, three very different ways of interacting and working with the customer. 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵 & 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 (1472–2000s) Personal connections. Simpler access to services. The bank as your primary relationship — because there was no other way to interact with it. You had to go to the Bank and speak with the Banker. 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗍𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 (2000s–2025) We gained convenience & speed, but lost intimacy. Apps optimized for cost-to-serve, not relationship. Banks became a utility you logged into — and, for many customers, lost primary bank status as a result. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 (2025→) This is where it gets interesting. Natural language, guided. Understands customer intent. Resolves in the conversation. Compliant by design. Not a chatbot bolted onto an app. A fundamentally different interaction model. With the acquisition of Kasisto, Backbase is combining the platform that powers digital banking for hundreds of banks with the conversational AI that understands what customers actually mean, want and need from the Bank — not just what they type. The opportunity isn't "add a chatbot." It's rebuilding the relationship that got lost somewhere between the branch and the app icon — this time, at digital scale. The relationship is coming back. It just speaks a different language now. #ConversationalBanking #Backbase #Kasisto #WealthManagement #BankingAI
Aug 2026Webinar alert! Following our recent acquisition of Kasisto, our CMO Tim Rutten will be speaking with Kasisto (and now Backbase) product lead Joshua Schechter, about next era of digital banking, which will be CONVERSATIONAL. Tune into the conversation (no pun intended) on the 28th July. Link in the comments below.
Jul 2026Another month, another conference. Happy to report that next week (Mon-Wed) I will be in Zurich at the Swiss Fintech Week and Point Zero Forum / Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) conferences. While at Backbase we are a little bit less into digital assets and crypto (but our digital banking platform can process these transactions, of course), we are all the way in the Agentic AI in banking! I look forward to interesting presentations, panels, keynotes, but first and foremost to inspirational meetings and conversations. If you're there, please ping me: I would love to catch up!
Jun 2026Private Banking Relationship Managers are still logging into 5–6 different systems just to pull fragmented data for a single client meeting. If the data is that fragmented for a human, an AI agent stands no chance, and we can't risk hallucination. The Nexus data layer on Backbase Banking OS solves this fragmentation problem for the AI itself. We covered this topic in depth in our recent webinar, explaining why Nexus is the prerequisite for effective AI in Private Banking & Wealth Management.
Jun 2026This is gold from Simon Taylor 💥 9 in 10 companies report zero impact with AI after three years. So he studied what the winners do differently. You'd expect the winners to be the usual suspects. ▶ Anthropic. ▶ Ramp. And then BBVA shows up — a fully regulated universal bank with roots older than the telephone, sitting right next to the AI-natives. 📊 The pattern across all of them: they changed their operating model. BBVA didn't stop at handing out a chatbot. It went all-in at the enterprise level and put AI capability inside every squad. ✅ With a nuance: the platform is the enabler, not the finish line. The winners pair a serious platform with a real change in how people work — skills shared across the org, AI fluency treated as a learning curve, non-engineers shipping. Buy the first, and you still have to build the second. —— This is exactly what we're working on at Backbase: giving banks & wealth managers the unified platform layer so the operating-model change has somewhere to land — not 15 systems with a chatbot bolted on the side. You don't need to be a neobank. But you need a plan.
Jun 2026AI is making waves in UK banking, as seen in numerous headlines about its potential to revolutionise financial services. However, conversations with professionals in London, Charlotte Square, and other regional fintech hubs reveal a more complex picture. We are transitioning from the "Proof of Concept" stage to a phase that requires substantial effort. The main challenges we face are not rooted in technology, but rather in our readiness to adopt it: - **System Readiness:** Can our legacy architectures support secure, real-time AI integration? - **Cultural Readiness:** Are we equipping teams across all generations to utilise these tools effectively, or are we relying solely on a few tech-savvy individuals? - **Regulatory Readiness:** How can we utilise large language models (LLMs) while ensuring consumer duty and data privacy? This is an exciting time in the industry, but significant work is being done behind the scenes in data cleansing, governance, and workforce up-skilling. To my financial services network: What friction points is your business currently facing? Is it legacy technology, regulatory caution, or talent gaps? Please leave your thoughts in the comments. #UKBanking #FinTech #ArtificialIntelligence #DigitalTransformation #FinancialServices #AIReady #Banking #FintechUK #AI #FutureOfWork #Leadership #Backbase
Jun 2026In 2025, "AI-augmented Advisors" was a bold idea that earned you a nod at conferences. 𝐈𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬. I and the rest of the Backbase team have been making this case for a while, and back then it was all about potential — what could happen if RMs stopped drowning in admin and got that time back for clients. I think we're past potential now. We're at proof. 📊 Capgemini's World Wealth Report 2026 asked over 1,300 relationship managers across 16 markets what they want. The number that matters: 76% want AI that automates the routine work and surfaces proactive client insights. That's not a fringe view — that's your front line telling you exactly what they need. And the reason they're asking? Nearly 40% of executives admit their RMs are still performing operational functions manually. Talk about an underwhelming experience in 2026. ✅ 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐈 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐤𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐲 — 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐌𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦 𝟑𝟎–𝟓𝟎% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. Clients notice when their RM walks in prepared. They notice when they don't. The tech to fix the 70/30 split is here today. The only variable left is who moves first. —— This is exactly the problem we're solving at Backbase — putting digital & agentic automation on the RM's desktop so they spend their day with clients, not with their admin. P.S. Happy to show you what that looks like in practice — just reach out. 👋 or explore by yourself: https://lnkd.in/dP5Mv5Vi
Jun 2026There is an old-school view that Global Development Centers are quiet engines in the background—meant to execute, and ensure low cost advantage. At Backbase, we are proving that model is obsolete. This week, we welcomed our global CFO, Didier Van der Coelden, and CPO, Jodi Slomp, to our Hyderabad office. For me, the visit highlighted a key shift taking place in a lot of companies that are building their centers in Hyderabad. We aren't just supporting the global mission; we are a strategic extension of our global innovation engine. Key takeaways: 1. Integrated Strategy: Having our global C-Suite engage in 1:1s and open hours ensures that there is zero translational loss between our HQ and our Hyderabad teams. We are one team. 2. Execution to Ownership: Our conversations with the leaders weren't just about shipping code; they were about owning outcomes. Whether it’s Agentic AI powered teams or the future of the AI Native Banking OS, the intellectual heavy lifting happens across our global offices simultaneously. 3. Culture of Shared Purpose: Announcing our CSR Partnership with Youth for Seva and Launching our "STEM Lab on Wheels" alongside our global leaders showed that our values are universal. We aren't just building a product; we are building a legacy of impact. When we bring global leadership and local teams close together, we don't just get engagement—we get a competitive advantage for our teams. Proud to be part of a leadership team that values transparency, proximity, and bold growth. #OneBackbase #Leadership #Innovation #FutureOfBanking #HyderabadTech
