This is the kind of leadership shift that changes workplace culture from the inside out. People don’t thrive when they’re simply assigned tasks — they thrive when they understand the purpose behind the work and feel genuinely connected to the outcome. The strongest teams are built through intentional conversations, clarity, trust, and giving people space to contribute their strengths in meaningful ways. A reminder that leadership isn’t just about delegation. It’s about enrollment, empowerment, and making people feel seen before expecting performance.

This has been an incredible and impactful partnership. Together we are advancing care for the individuals we serve and our communities as a whole.

Last month I joined our Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters to celebrate the passage of the New Jersey First Responders Post‑Traumatic Stress Disorder Protection Act, which establishes strong employment protections for paid first responders diagnosed with work‑related PTSD. As Chief Houlihan and members of CHFD know all too well, research shows roughly 30% of first responders develop behavioral health conditions, including PTSD, compared with about 20% of the general population. Since 2018, more than 1,400 first responders have died by suicide, and in recent years suicides have often exceeded line‑of‑duty deaths. The Act aims to overcome the culture of stoicism that has discouraged first responders from seeking mental health care. I was honored to join State Senator Jim Beach (D-LD6) and Assemblyman Bill Moen (D‑LD5), the primary sponsors of the original bills (S2373 and A2145), along with Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr , for this event. Congratulations to New Jersey Firefighters PFANJ President Matt Caliente, PFANJ 1st VP Dave Hines, PFANJ Treasurer Greg Swanson, PFANJ Peer Support Coordinator John Herrmann, and representatives from multiple International Association of Fire Fighters locals. Your passion and perseverance over the last 5 years brought this legislation to fruition!
