It is such an honour to have had the opportunity to pen my reflections on coaching, and it is especially fitting that my reflections also speak to the impact that those I have coached have had on me. Thank you to Anita Baraka-Williams , Claire Sanger an the entire Coaching Week team at Capco for the opportunity. #byaw #InternationalCoachingWeek #Coaching #Leadership #Development #TeamCapco

May 2026‘Stretching before exercise prevents injury’ rule is false. A 2002 BMJ review found static stretching before exercise has ZERO injury prevention effect. The ‘static stretching before exercise prevents injury’ is false. A 2002 BMJ review found static stretching before exercise has ZERO injury prevention effect. "Always stretch before exercise, or you will injure yourself." Every PE teacher said it. Even the gym sessions began with it. But the science does not back it up. In 2002, researchers Herbert and Gabriel published a systematic review in the British Medical Journal. They analysed studies covering over 10,000 participants and reached a conclusion that contradicted decades of conventional fitness wisdom. Static stretching before exercise does not prevent injury. Here is what is actually happening when you stretch cold muscles before a workout. Static stretching, the kind where you hold a position for 20 to 30 seconds, temporarily reduces the force your muscles can generate. You are not preparing the muscle. You are mildly weakening it right before you ask it to perform. What actually reduces injury risk is a proper warm-up. Light movement, gradually increasing in intensity, that raises your heart rate, increases blood flow, and brings the muscles to operating temperature. That is what the research supports. The static stretch ritual survived because it gave coaches and teachers something structured to do at the start of a session. It felt like preparation. Feeling like preparation and being prepared are two very different things.

Apr 2026“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” rule is False. Kellogg's invented that idea to sell its cereal. And you have been feeling guilty for skipping breakfast. Along with Kellogg’s, Post Cereals, and General Foods also played a role in popularising breakfasts through dubious means. In the early 1900s, cereal companies needed a reason for people to buy their product every single morning. So they manufactured one. They partnered with nutritionists, ran campaigns & advertisements, and repeated the message until it became common sense. It worked. Generations of people woke up feeling guilty for skipping breakfast. Parents too drilled this habit into their children. Nobody asked who was paying for the research. Here is what the science actually shows. Breakfast is not inherently superior to any other meal. Your metabolism does not shut down if you skip it. Hunger hormones, specifically ghrelin, rise and fall in patterns shaped by habit, not biological necessity. If you train your body to expect food at 7 am, it will signal hunger at 7 am. That is conditioning, not a requirement. Intermittent fasting research has made this clear. People who manage their eating window and skip breakfast consistently show limited to no metabolic disadvantage. Many infact, show improvements in insulin sensitivity and energy stability. The most important meal of the day is the one that fits your body, your schedule, and your actual hunger signals. If you genuinely feel better eating breakfast, eat it. But if you have been forcing down toast and eggs every morning out of obligation, you are blindly following a marketing strategy. Eat when you are hungry. Not when an advertisement told you to.
Apr 2026You do not need to spend money on detox. Your liver does it every single day for FREE. The detox industry has become a $50 billion behemoth by selling you what you don't need. Detox teas. Juice cleanses. Activated charcoal lemonades. Supplements with names that sound like they were written by a chemistry professor having a breakdown. All of it is built on one idea: that your body is dirty and needs outside help to clean itself. That idea is false. Your liver filters toxins continuously. It converts harmful substances into water-soluble compounds and flushes them out. Your kidneys process roughly 200 litres of blood every single day, removing waste through urine. Your lymphatic system, lungs, and skin are all active participants in this process. This is not occasional maintenance. It is constant, automatic, and extraordinarily efficient. No juice accelerates it. No charcoal drink enhances it. No three-day cleanse resets it. When campaigns claim their product "supports your body's natural detoxification," they are using language carefully designed to avoid a direct proposition while implying something that isn't true. The only things actually proven to support liver function are the boring ones. Limiting alcohol. Staying hydrated. Eating enough fibre. Getting consistent sleep. Moving your body. Emotionally vibrant. None of those fit on a premium packs. None of them cost a fortune! Your body is not a system that accumulates toxins waiting for a product to arrive. It is a system that has been cleaning itself since the day you were born. So take your trust and save the time & investment.
Apr 2026HR Dive found 4 in 10 L&D professionals are afraid AI will replace them. But that same year, L&D budgets went up 66%. Fear and opportunity are sitting in the same room, and most people look at one side. AI is not going away. And if every organization is pushing AI into their operations right now, someone has to teach their people how to use it: • How to question what the output is telling you • How to apply judgment when the model is confidently wrong • How to work effectively in teams that are part human, part automated That is not something AI can teach. It is an L&D problem. The field is changing, some roles will shrink, but the gap between AI capability and human readiness is exactly where L&D belongs. We have been through disruption before. E-learning felt threatening once too.
Apr 2026“You should sleep for 8 hours every day” rule is 209 years old. And it is False. It was born out of a Labour Union protest. Sleeping 8 hours was never designed around your biology. Your body has its own number. In 1817, Robert Owen launched a campaign with a simple demand: "8 hours labour, 8 hours recreation, 8 hours rest." It was a worker protection movement, a pushback against factory owners who wanted people on shift for 12, sometimes 14 hours a day. It travelled from labour policy into medical advice, fitness culture, and your morning alarm. Nobody stopped to ask whether 8 was actually the right number for everyone. Here's what the research actually shows. Sleep need is genetic. Some people are fully restored at 6 hours. Others need 9. There's a gene variant, BHLHE41, that allows certain people to function optimally on less sleep with zero cognitive deficit. It's rare, but it exists. And Biology is not one-size-fits-all. What matters is sleep quality and sleep cycles, not clock hours. One full cycle runs roughly 90 minutes. Waking up mid-cycle leaves you groggy even after 8 hours. Waking at the end of a cycle leaves you sharp after 6. The signs your sleep number is off are obvious once you look for them. You wake before your alarm and feel good. Or you sleep 8 hours and still drag yourself through the morning. Both are data points. Track how you feel, not how long you slept. Adjust in 15-minute increments. Give it two weeks. And you’ll feel the difference.
Apr 2026Driving innovation in auditing requires more than identifying risks. It requires transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights. As auditors, especially in IT, our responsibility goes beyond highlighting observations. We bridge the gap between technical complexity and business understanding by presenting data in a way that is visual, meaningful, and decision oriented for management. With this in mind, I’m pleased to have completed an intensive 2-weeks Tableau training journey, covering both Fundamentals and Intermediate levels. This experience strengthened my ability to leverage data visualization tools to enhance audit effectiveness and deliver insights that truly add value. My sincere appreciation to the Central Bank of Oman for enabling this opportunity and supporting continuous professional development. Special thanks as well to Advance Innovation for their collaboration and delivery of this program. This is another step toward embracing data driven auditing where insight, clarity, and impact matter most.
