The Future of EU Crypto: Lessons from the Council vs. the Parliament Hello everyone, today, I would like to share a short update on our European Affairs efforts in building an open dialogue between Bitpanda and the European Union—particularly the European Council and the EU Parliament. As digital finance and single market transformation take center stage on the EU agenda amidst global uncertainty, open dialogue between industry leaders and legislators is no longer optional—it’s critical. Recently, Michal Truszczynski , who leads our Public Affairs at the EU level, embarked on a mission to meet with all 27 Member States in the Council. The goal? To ensure the voice of Europe’s largest native CASP is heard where it matters most. Here are three key takeaways from our many meetings in that regard: ◾ The Council has proven very open for discussion, we’ve found the Council open to pragmatic, tech-neutral dialogue. Very intersting though is that that the multi-issuance of stablecoins appears to be a rare unifying topic for most EU stakeholders. ◾ The "Pandora’s Box" Risk: The Parliament appears to have a higher appetite for MiCA amendments. This regulatory "itch" could create uncertainty for the industry if not balanced by the Council’s more neutral stance. ◾ The "Savings and Investment Union" Myth-Busting: Despite our sector’s maturity, we are still fighting misconceptions that hamper EU competitiveness, financial sovereignty, and Europe’s global position. Our Stance: Policies and laws cannot be built in isolation; they require input from the private sector to provide fresh perspectives and practical market insights. In this respect, we are currently pushing for clear, deployable remedies to the uneven playing field and regulatory convergence (supervision and enforcement) within the MiSP package. The current timeline risks maintaining a detrimental status quo for years to come. The Financial Sector of the European Union is not isolated from global competitors that are unhindered entering the European Market. We need clear rules and enforcement in order to ensure a level playing field. We look forward to accelerating these exchanges in H2 2026. Europe’s financial transition depends on it. #DigitalFinance #MiCA #MiSP #EUAccountability #CryptoRegulation #Bitpanda #EuropeanCouncil
May 2026Europe’s financial landscape is shifting, and Bitpanda is leading the change. After days of inspiring meetings and panels during Paris Blockchain Week - including welcoming Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Affairs of France Anne Le Hénanff to our booth or the Societe Generale panel at the Ministry of Finance - the takeaway is clear: We are witnessing the convergence of DeFi and Traditional Finance. And by bringing institutional-grade liquidity and sophisticated execution to a regulated environment with our Fusion relaunch, we are removing the final barriers for professional capital to enter the digital asset space. The era of fragmented markets is over. At Bitpanda Enterprise , we are building the unified infrastructure that will define the next decade of global wealth management. https://lnkd.in/dMsXKNTE
Apr 2026The ECB's Opinion on Capital Markets Integration: A Missed Opportunity? Hi everyone! The ECB published its opinion on the Commission's capital markets integration proposals today. While there is much to support, some recommendations risk undermining Europe's global competitiveness in digital finance. On ESMA supervision of CASPs: The ECB backs centralising CASP supervision under ESMA. In principle, better coordinated oversight could improve enforcement and address cross-border risks, but only if implemented correctly. But we must not skip steps. Before transferring supervision, we need: ◾ Effective NCA coordination mechanisms already in place ◾ Proven supervisory convergence tools that actually work and provide a level playing field within the EU ◾ ESMA resourced and ready to handle this responsibility Centralisation is not automatically better supervision. It is only effective if built on strong foundations. The risk we need to avoid is creating a supervisory bottleneck that slows innovation without meaningfully improving outcomes. Where I am concerned: On Stablecoins: The ECB wants to prohibit settlement in e-money tokens that are "fungible with crypto-assets issued outside the Union, including third-country multi-issuer schemes." Translation: this would effectively exclude globally-scaled stablecoin solutions from European wholesale markets, even when issued by EU entities under MiCA. If we want euro stablecoins to compete with dollar stablecoins globally, we cannot isolate European issuers from international markets. Network effects do not respect regulatory borders. We risk creating a fragmented ecosystem that serves neither European sovereignty nor competitiveness. The stablecoin ecosystem is still new and evolving we should not draw boarders yet maybe isolating or hindering our european solutions in the long run. My concern: some recommendations reflect a bank-centric worldview that underestimates how digital finance is transforming markets. Central bank money should play a primary role, but creating regulatory moats risks isolating Europe from global digital finance flows. Europe has a genuine opportunity to lead. MiCA is already the global benchmark. But leadership requires confidence to compete globally, not retreat behind regulatory walls that ultimately leave us behind. At Bitpanda, we welcome the opportunity to engage constructively in these discussions as the legislative process continues. Getting this framework right is not just important for our industry, it is critical for Europe's digital sovereignty and economic competitiveness. The question is not whether we need robust regulation. It is whether our regulation enables European firms to compete globally, or creates a protected market that falls behind.
Apr 2026Today we're launching Fusion. This is big news for all crypto traders 🚀 - Aggregated access to fragmented liquidity through a single interface. - Assets securely held off-exchange within Bitpanda’s trusted custody solution. https://lnkd.in/eZcx48JY
Apr 2026One of the things that still frustrates me about crypto trading infrastructure is how much execution quality depends on where your capital happens to be sitting. Fragmented order books, pre-funded balances across multiple venues, inconsistent fills — it's a problem that traditional markets solved years ago but crypto is still catching up on. That's exactly what Fusion at Bitpanda is tackling — aggregating liquidity across 12+ venues and executing in real time so traders get better access, more consistent fills, and don't have to spread capital across half a dozen platforms just to get a decent execution. Enjoy!
