May 2026Today I had the pleasure of attending AI Works for Ireland ran by the Local Enterprise Office Cork City & Google experts. Really fascinating to see AI used in the hands of the experts from Google and how we at Republic of Oud can use it as a tool for business. The message was clear learn AI, implement AI or get left behind. Even generated my 1st AI video using google below. If this is the result of a novice with a very basic prompt, the possibilities are endless. We will be showcasing Ajmal products at the Irish Cosmetic Trade Show in the RDS starting Sunday 17th to 19th May. Stand C15. Drop by and say hello.
May 2026One year into the part-time MSc HRM journey at the University of Strathclyde and I genuinely cannot believe how quickly it has gone. Today, some of my classmates were sitting exams, so I headed onto campus afterwards to meet them in the student union for the inevitable post exam debrief. Three hours of handwriting later, there was a mixture of exhaustion, relief, writer’s cramp and the kind of slightly delirious analysis that only seems to happen after university exams. What has struck me most over the past year is the calibre of people around me. Intelligent, thoughtful, resilient and deeply curious about the future of work and people practice. I’m incredibly proud to learn alongside them. As someone returning to academia later in my career, I have probably gained just as much from my classmates as I have from the lectures themselves. Different perspectives, lived experiences and debates have challenged my own thinking in ways I did not fully expect. I’ve also been genuinely overwhelmed by how open minded, accepting and emotionally intelligent this generation is. I know that probably makes me sound older than I would like to admit, but spending time around people who are so inclusive, collaborative and supportive of one another has been incredibly refreshing and honestly quite hopeful. For many of my full time classmates, the next stop is dissertations and then graduation, which feels both exciting and slightly surreal. I still have one final essay to submit before moving into dissertation research mode for 2027 and, true to form, I am already planning far too much far too early. A huge well done to everyone who sat exams today and thank you to this cohort for making the first year such a memorable one. The support, humour and encouragement has meant more than you probably realise. And finally, to our professors and lecturers who have guided, challenged and supported us through the year, I hope you are all managing to get at least a little rest soon too. Apr 2026When asked about AI, I've always told people that my job was safe, in my view, so long as decision makers were human. The reality, though, is that decision makers are using AI, just like the rest of us. In fact, and as outlined by my colleagues Clinton Slogrove and Nicolas Huertas, there are even AI arbitrators now. The controls on this use by decision makers, and not just counsel, is accordingly an important and still-developing area to watch. https://lnkd.in/guC9eBV2
