Aug 2026I’ve been away for a while after my second semester exams for my MBA in International Trade. Took some time to rest, eat Mummcy food for free 😂, and work quietly on a number of research projects behind the scenes. Yesterday, I returned to Abuja — the place I always describe as “where comfort leaves me so purpose can begin again.” Back to resume my third semester. Back to structure. Back to work. Back to building. One of the major things on my mind right now is building Africa Trade Translator — a platform focused on breaking down African trade policies, opportunities, and market realities into simple content everyday Africans and businesses can actually understand and use. There are so many important conversations happening around intra-African trade, AfCFTA, exports, logistics, manufacturing, and market access, but most of the information still lives inside long policy papers, conferences, and government documents that many young Africans and SMEs will never read. I want to help bridge that gap. I want to bring those “hidden gems” from policy papers to social media in a practical way so more Africans can understand: ▪️where we currently stand as a continent, ▪️where the opportunities are, ▪️and how businesses and individuals can position themselves early. I also have a few other projects I’ve been quietly planning which I’ll unveil gradually with time. Interestingly, I’ve been thinking a lot about age 26 lately. And honestly? 25 gave me some of the best experiences of my life — the risks, the lessons, the people, the growth, the failures, the wins, the late nights, the crazy ideas, the moments that changed how I think forever. Now it feels like life is entering another phase again. More responsibility. More execution. More clarity. More building. For now, it’s back to base and back to work. Time to clear pending projects, execute ideas properly, and create room for bigger opportunities ahead. Funny enough, the MBA journey that once felt so far away is slowly beginning to look like the final stretch. Just my thoughts this morning.
May 2026In looking at AI, the first transformation may in reality be optimization, which is a good step. The perspective to consider is what a new competitor in your space, built from scratch as AI first, looks like. There lies your real opportunity for change.

May 2026CAPE is getting a lot of attention for the potential return of duties to importers. For many, that could mean meaningful cash flow coming back into the business. But refunds won’t happen without review. As companies begin preparing for potential recovery, many are also realizing they do not have a complete picture of their historical import data. Some are now working quickly to leverage ACE data and reconstruct entry packets, often for the first time. That is not uncommon. Trade compliance programs are often built over time, and not every organization has had the same level of visibility or investment in this area. What matters now is how companies respond. Those that have established classification processes, valuation methodologies, and recordkeeping practices may be better positioned to move quickly and confidently. For others, this moment presents an opportunity to strengthen those foundations. Importers of record remain responsible for the accuracy of their filings; this is not the responsibility of the brokers. As refunds are processed, areas such as classification, valuation, country of origin, and documentation may receive additional attention. This is not only a recovery exercise. It is also a compliance checkpoint. For organizations navigating this, a few practical steps can help: • Confirm the Ch 99 numbers were used properly • Validate classification and valuation methodologies • Confirm country of origin determinations are supportable • Review transfer pricing With the right approach, companies can position themselves to recover value while also strengthening their compliance posture moving forward. Curious how others are approaching this. Are you focused on recovery, or using this as a moment to build more visibility into your trade data?
