If you’ve been laid off recently, that new resume alone isn’t going to save you. Before, it used to be simple: Write your resume, polish your LinkedIn profile, do some networking, then keep applying until a job offer lands. That old playbook is dead. In an AI-driven economy, putting a fresh coat of paint on a house with a crumbling foundation will land absolutely nothing. Because AI is now doing 60% of what we used to get paid for. Which means that you have to evolve. Equip yourself with skillsets that are required for the jobs that are now emerging, as software engineers become prompt engineers and data analysts become data modelling. At Careerminds , we’ve fundamentally rethought how outplacement works. The focus shifting from just helping you find a job, to AI-proofing your skillset. Specifically, participants now complete a Skills Inventory. Our coaches work with every participant to: 1. Identify exactly which skills have been automated or eroded by AI. 2. Isolate the transferable human skills that are still highly relevant and marketable. 3. Map out and train you on the new, emerging skills required to compete today. None of us can fight technology, but we should leverage it and ensure that we are equipped to handle the high-level, strategic work that AI can’t do. Yes, AI can be used to rewrite your resume in seconds. But AI can’t tell you how to evolve and market your skillset. And that is the gap that I believe Careerminds is well-equipped to fill.
May 2026John Fareed has lived a life that sounds like a movie script. He spent 6 years in the US Marines followed by 15 years as a professional magician performing at places such as the famed Magic Castle in Hollywood. He was ‘successful’, until a friend helped him see the ceiling of his magic career. That’s when his rose tinted glasses fell off. He realized that despite his talent, he was often viewed by corporate executives as a "carny" (rather than a respected peer!). Unless he reached the level of David Copperfield, he would never achieve the financial security he desired. So he pivoted into hospitality consulting - with NO prior industry experience. He launched Fareed and Company, eventually serving 1,200 hotels and winning many global industry awards. Then 9/11 happened. It devastated the travel industry, forcing him to close his firm. But John didn't despair. Instead, he moved to Dublin to earn a Master's degree - in his 40s! - which led to his current role as the Global Chairman of Horwath HTL ! Today, John is a recognized icon in the hospitality industry and the author of From Invisible to Icon, a book distributed by Simon & Schuster that teaches others how to build authority from scratch. Best of all, John is my latest guest on the Clocking Out podcast, sponsored by Careerminds . Other things we spoke on: ✓ How one conversation ended his 15-year magic career (and is considered one of the best moments of his life) ✓ Why he moved halfway across the world in his 40s to rebuild his life ✓ Why most people play too small & how to reframe your “ceiling” into a new floor This episode is a great one for those who feel stuck behind a “ceiling” in their own career. And remember: It’s never ‘too late” to start a new chapter! 🔗Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eiFzkuZV Let me know your thoughts in the comment below!
Apr 2026A few weeks ago, my dad turned 74. As part of our family tradition, my dad, brother and I went on a mini vacation to celebrate. This ritual started over 10 years ago after my grandmother had passed away. As a result, my grandfather wanted to get away and had always dreamed of going to Las Vegas, so we, my dad, brother and I, took him there. Somehow, that turned into an annual tradition that has never stopped! Although this year was different. For the first time, my grandfather couldn’t join us. At 90 years old, he no longer has the strength to make the trip. We missed him, especially at our usual table at Batastista’s (a place we visit every year). But we did surprise my dad with something unique this trip. This year, it was a trip to see The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere. A favorite story of dad’s. A particular moment that got to him was when the Tin Man was given his heart. Specifically, when the Wizard said: "A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others." That quote stayed with me, even as I went straight from Las Vegas to Atlanta for a high-intensity summit with our global teams. It was a huge shift in gear from quality family time to deep-dive sessions on Careermind’s global expansion and new workforce intelligence solutions. But I appreciated the contrast because it reminds me of why I do what I do. In the corporate world, we’re often taught to sacrifice our “human touch” even despite difficult challenges. But the truth is that no matter how big we get and how much we expand, the most important story we might ever shape is our own. Relationships are the only ROI that actually matter in the long run. If I don’t carve out time to be a son, brother and father, I might lose the very empathy and perspective I need to lead Careerminds. As we enter into a new era at the company, one of my big priorities is to ensure that we never lose sight of the “Heart”. Because at the end of the day, we aren’t just managing careers and transitions, we’re looking after people. And that matters.
