Huge thanks to everyone who came out to our Tamarac HQ for the IBM Sterling OMS User Group event. A huge shoutout to Dane Hunter and Kambiz Pakzad for organizing such a great event and helping bring this group together. It was great getting technology, retail, supply chain, and product leaders in the same room to talk shop, share perspectives, and discuss where order management is heading. We also gave a brief update on CITY Furniture ’s OMS modernization journey as we continue moving from our home-grown OMS toward IBM Sterling, with IBM #webMethods as a key integration layer. For us, this is not just a system migration. By moving toward an event-driven, line-level data model and building our Golden Thread extension from day one, we are creating a cleaner separation between the transactional order engine and the analytical / AI foundation we need for the future. One of the highlights of the day was having the IBM Sterling OMS product team walk us through their roadmap for agentic AI in OMS. A few areas stood out: 1) Out-of-the-box order and inventory agents designed to support fulfillment managers and customer service teams 2) MCP server and tool builder capabilities to expose order and inventory APIs and make them easier to connect into agentic workflows 3) Model gateway flexibility to support different model strategies, from smaller language models to open and frontier models 4) Embeddable chat and no-code agent building to bring agentic capabilities into business workflows and user experiences 5) Enterprise guardrails and monitoring, including audit trails, cost visibility, and controls for agent interactions What I liked most is that this is not just “AI on top of OMS.” It is a practical direction for exposing order and inventory capabilities in a way that can be governed, monitored, and embedded into real work. Seeing the roadmap reinforced why we are focused on building an AI-ready foundation. Enterprise AI only creates value when it is grounded in trusted data, connected to real workflows, and governed properly. Thanks again to everyone who joined us, and to the IBM team for sharing the roadmap and engaging in a thoughtful discussion about the future of unified commerce and supply chain modernization. #CITYFurniture #CITYTech #IBMSterlingOMS #OMS #SupplyChain #RetailTech #UnifiedCommerce #AgenticAI #webMethods
May 2026Three days. Practitioners from around the world. At CITY Furniture . The Global Lean Summit this year was something I'll carry for a while. Not just because we hosted it — but because of what it means to stand in your own building and show the work. Not slides about what lean COULD look like. The real thing, running in real time, seen by the people who know what they're looking at. Thank you to every attendee who traveled to be here, Anna Thatcher and Jared Thatcher for putting on this amazing event each year, to Dave Francis for representing City brilliantly on day two, and to the entire City team who made this happen. 👏🙏 #GlobalLeanSummit #LeanLeadership #CityFurniture #OperationalExcellence #ContinuousImprovement #Leadership
May 2026Happy to be back representing CITY for the second time at eTail Connect East. This afternoon we heard from Rebecca Ginns the Global Head at Perigold. It was inspiring to hear her journey growing the Perigold brand into a reality. To us it seemed like overnight success but the reality was it took the better part of 12 years to get to what the brand is today. Awesome shares and insights and a great conference with a smaller group of digital leaders. I really love this one. Jonathan Gobeli eTail™ CITY Furniture
