Proof that conversations about #suicide and suicide loss can, and should, happen in every workplace - even (and perhaps especially) in law firms. Last week, months of planning finally came to fruition for the CMS UK Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee's flagship #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek event, which tackled the topic of generational trauma caused by suicide. Knowing the stats, I knew that this event would be relevant to a lot of people in our industry, but even then I was blown away by the number of people who had lost or knew *more than one person* who had died by suicide. That is why this conversation is so crucial - and this event was proof that conversations around this topic can also be hopeful and uplifting, without denying the tragic realities. I was honoured to screen Will Castle 's powerful and important film, 'Heirlooms', and to be joined on a lived experience panel by Will and Camilla Ash . Will and Camilla spoke so generously, openly and eloquently about their own experiences of loss and allowed me to also reflect on my own. That conversation will stay with me for a very long time. A huge thank you to Camilla and Will, and to Amelia Wrighton and Mahnoor Ahmed from Suicide&Co who came along to support, as well as to everyone who helped pull the event together. The biggest thank you though, goes to everyone who accepted the invite and turned up to be part of this important conversation, even when they knew it might be painful. Clients, friends and colleagues gathering in Glasgow. 2026 is the 25th anniversary of the All-Energy conference which brings together all those involved in the renewables and low-carbon sectors. An excellent CMS UK Women in Fintech breakfast this morning, superbly hosted by Fiona Henderson and Jade Cameron . 👏 The wonderful Julie Ashmore Dann entertained us with her tales of arctic adventures and reminded us all of the important role #optimism and #failure play in developing resilience. As an optimist myself and someone who often fears (and feels a) failure, it was a refreshing reminder to celebrate the qualities we all bring to the party and to watch for our gaps.
