I’ve always considered myself a naturally hard-working person. But one thing I’ve learned over the years is that when you genuinely believe in what you’re selling, the “sell” becomes so much easier. Honestly, I kind of fell into recruitment… but I stayed because I realised how much I loved the people side of it. Over the years, I’ve done every aspect of recruitment candidate relationships, client management, 360 recruitment, internal recruitment, admin… even back in the days when registering a candidate meant filling out paperwork and putting it into a binder! But no matter what role I’ve done within recruitment, I’ve always been drawn to the talent side. I love taking the time to really understand people: ➡️ What they want from their career ➡️ Why they’re looking to move ➡️ What environment suits them best ➡️ What the next step means for them personally and professionally Because to me, recruitment has never just been about filling a role. It’s about helping someone find the right opportunity potentially even their dream role. Whether we like to admit it or not, our careers are something we spend a huge portion of our lives doing. So it has to be right. That’s why when I’m genuinely excited about a candidate, it becomes so much easier to sell them to a client. Because I know the impact the right opportunity could have on their future. One thing I really pride myself on is being able to truly advocate for candidates. I love a CV review because it gives me the opportunity to tell the client everything I’ve learned about the person behind the CV. Candidates are never just “a bum in a seat” to me. They’re people making huge life and career decisions. This week was a great reminder of why I love what I do. I worked with a couple of candidates I was genuinely excited about for some brilliant opportunities. After speaking with them, I knew straight away they were a strong match for the client. So, I did something some recruiters might think is a little cheeky… I booked placeholders into the client’s diary before even sending the CVs over. 😅 But it worked. The client trusted my judgement because we’ve built that relationship. Before I’d even sent the CV, they had already agreed to meet the candidate. Less than 1 hour after speaking with me, interviews were booked for the next day! In less than 2 weeks, we’ve helped fill 2 roles for that client (with more pending...) And for me, that’s what recruitment is all about: ✅ Building trust ✅ Understanding people ✅ Being proactive ✅ Backing candidates you genuinely believe in That’s why I love recruitment, and honestly, why I think I’ve stayed in it for so long.

Apr 2026As I round the corner of 9 years at SThree , it is easy to work day-to-day without considering what's led me to be here so long. I originally joined for the strategy - STEM-focused with niche specialisms that naturally cultivate recruitment experts. (Big Data / AI was my original patch that I'm still quite fond of!) However, I have stayed for the people - working with diverse yet like-minded individuals that want to succeed together with a supportive and transparent culture. Sounds pretty corny but it's as simple as that. Work with people that lift each other up - it makes the highs even higher and the lows less common and easy to weather together. Thank you all at SThree , and let's make this another memorable year.
