We want to make procurement boring. Yes, boring. Last week at Tacto Atom & Bits, I said exactly that. And I meant it. Because in B2B, “boring” is not a bad thing. Boring means: 👉 it works 👉 it’s reliable 👉 it’s predictable 👉 it doesn’t create noise When procurement is exciting, something is usually wrong. It means delivery is missing, a supplier fails or a process breaks. Nobody wants that. What companies actually want is simple. They want procurement to just run. So they can focus on what really matters: their own business. That’s why I believe that the real job in procurement is not to add complexity. It’s to remove it. And that’s also why platforms matter. Because in a world of thousands of suppliers, unpredictable disruptions and overall increasing complexity you don’t solve the problem by adding more manual effort. You solve it by making complexity manageable and ideally invisible. At Conrad, we've seen companies reduce their active supplier relationships from 500 to 50 through our platform - not because they buy less, but because they buy smarter. That's boring in the best way. That’s what “boring” really means for me. And maybe that’s the most underestimated goal in B2B today. 📸 Bildcredit: Tobias König
Apr 2026Why would a digital B2B company bring back a catalog? The short answer: Because now we can. The longer answer: In the past, creating a catalog was a massive effort. Months of work. Entire teams. High costs. Today? The combination of digital platforms, structured product data and AI enables something entirely new: 👉 A catalog that is not created in isolation, but directly generated from a digital system. What used to be curated manually is now data-driven. What used to be static is now the entry point into real-time information. And that’s exactly why the catalog is back. Not as a sales channel or a nostalgic project. But as what it has always been - just better: A curated entry point into technology. Because the real problem today is not availability. It’s orientation. With more than 10 million products, “more choice” doesn’t help. What matters is structure. Relevance. Pre-selection. That’s what the catalog provides: A snapshot of our universe. An entry point. A filter. And one more thing: The catalog is intentionally physical. Because if you are already in the digital Conrad universe, you don’t need it. The platform, search and categories are faster and more powerful. But not every moment in a working day is digital. Not every decision starts online. Sometimes you need a different entry point. One that sits on your desk, not in your browser. And from there, the real strength begins: The platform.
