LinkedInArtificial Intelligence

Earlier this year, we published the Disprz State of Learning Report, one of the most rigorous pieces of L&D research we've done. We surveyed hundreds of our customers, mapped learning maturity across industries, and arrived at findings I genuinely believe every CHRO and CLO needs to sit with. And then I barely talked about it. Because we got swept up in building the product. AI was moving fast, our product roadmap was relentless, and I was deep in what Disprz was becoming, not enough in what the market needed to hear. I'm correcting that now. Here's why it feels timely: as we take our AI products to more organisations, one thing becomes clear. Getting AI to work well in L&D isn't just a technology decision. It builds on what learning has already become inside that organisation. So before getting into what's ahead, it's worth understanding where learning stands today. Three things stood out: 1. Only 13% of organisations have linked learning to business workflows or operational KPIs. Most L&D teams still measure completion. That gap between activity and outcomes is widening. 2. So-called traditional sectors like manufacturing, banking, and healthcare are quietly pulling ahead. When learning is tied to operations, it stops being a compliance function and becomes a strategic necessity. 3. 61% of learning is now self-paced. Learners are no longer waiting to be trained. They are pulling learning into their own flow, on their own terms. The question is whether your learning infrastructure is built for that, or still designed only around the instructor. What these three points tell me, together, is that learning is slowly moving from a calendar-based function to a continuous, business-embedded capability. It is not happening everywhere, but it is happening. And as I speak to more organisations, I see these shifts reflected in the decisions they are making. The ones building on this foundation, linking learning to outcomes, treating it as operationally critical, and making it fit into the flow of work, are in a very different position from those still treating it as a once-a-year event. That foundation is what makes AI adoption in learning actually work. Jump to AI without it, and you're automating a broken system. Build on it, and AI becomes a genuine accelerant.
