I'm thrilled to share that we launched Luma Agent this week. It's an agentic AI built into the Luma platform that plans and executes scientific work end-to-end — analyzing data, generating reports, managing workflows, and configuring the platform itself, all from a plain-language description of what you need. What's different from most AI tools in life sciences: it runs on structured, ontology-backed scientific data captured at the point of work. That means every action is logged, every result can be traced back to the source data that produced it, and scientists stay in control of every decision. Work that used to take days of manual querying can happen in minutes. If you're at Bio-IT World in Boston next week, please visit us at Dotmatics ' booth (418) and we'd be happy to walk you through what it looks like in practice: https://lnkd.in/gjf8Rx6A
May 2026Luma Agent launched today, and I'll say something that doesn't always make it into launch announcements: I've been using it, and it changes how the work feels in a big way. The part that stands out isn't the automation. It's that the agent understands the science behind the data it's working with. Compounds, assays, results, decisions. The relationships between them are already there. That's what lets it produce outputs a scientist can trust rather than spending time verifying whether the answer even makes sense. End-of-experiment documentation in a few minutes. Data analysis that no longer requires a specialist or a queue. Configuration that happens in a conversation instead of a services engagement. These aren't hypothetical use cases. They're what this tool does. If you're a scientist wondering whether agentic AI is ready for your lab, I'd be glad to show you what it looks like in practice. May 2026Today is finally the Day!!! I have been lucky enough to be able to use the Luma Agent for a number of months now and what excites me most about this launch is what it represents for the future of how scientific work gets done. For years the bottleneck in R&D hasn't been scientific creativity, but the infrastructure around it. The Luma Agent starts to remove these bottlenecks in a serious way. An Agent that helps build data flows, model data, interrogate, rationalise and empower scientists to make the right decisions faster and with complete explainabilty, using deterministic paths rather than relying solely on probabilistic methods. The foundation that makes this possible is structured, scientific data connected across the full research ecosystem. That's what lets an agent operate with the kind of precision and traceability that scientific work demands. This is the technical future we've been building toward. Proud to see it launch today. May 2026Very exciting milestone today at Dotmatics ! Luma Agent launched today. Scientists can now describe the outcome they need and let the agent handle the work in between. The agent takes care of pulling data, running analyses, generating documentation, and configuring workflows. End-of-experiment write-ups in minutes. Deep research across your entire scientific record without a specialist or a queue. This is what AI in the lab should look like. #LumaAgent #AgenticAI #AIforScience #LifeSciences #dotmatics

May 2026This week I was at the AWS Life Sciences Symposium in New York. It was an exciting day hearing where AI is moving the needle in life sciences, and where companies still struggle. Three takeaways: 1. Governance, lineage, and operating maturity separate exciting POCs from impactful adoption. AI makes POCs easier than ever, but enterprises struggle with broader rollouts and long-term maintenance unless they plan for scale from the start. Strong, well-governed data foundations from the beginning make it much less likely you stall later. 2. Even within one company, every lab-in-the-loop program has nuance and variability: different therapeutic focuses, instrumentation, assays, and more across labs. When teams push local orchestration, automation, and data systems without a unifying architecture, you often get new data silos. 3. The industry keeps evolving. FAIR is becoming FLAIR as people put more weight on lineage. Low-code / no-code approaches are giving way to more pro-code work as agentic tools lower the barrier to stronger tooling. Scientists are exacting users, and regulatory expectations keep the bar high for explainability, traceability, and reproducibility. Black-box approaches do not clear that bar. These are the exact problems we have been working through with Luma at Dotmatics: full traceability from conclusion to raw data; structured capture of lab work (not just free text); and SDLC-inspired, configuration-based change management practices that help AI stay verifiable and reproducible.
