This morning, while waiting for the lift, I glanced up at one of the screens in the office and saw a post celebrating the EirGrid Group Cricket Club winning the Connectivity Cup 2026 against teams from Google and Workday. And it genuinely made me smile. Not because of cricket itself — although beating Google and Workday is no small achievement 😊 — but because it reminded me of something I think we can sometimes forget in busy working lives. Work is never just about programmes, deadlines, meetings or delivery milestones. At its heart, work is about people. It’s about the conversations in corridors. The laughs during difficult weeks. The support people quietly give each other when things are tough. The friendships that grow unexpectedly over years of working side by side. Personally, some of the greatest gifts my career has given me are the relationships and friendships I’ve built along the way. The people who have encouraged me, challenged me, supported me, celebrated the good days with me and carried me through the hard ones. Those connections have brought so much joy, perspective, fun and meaning into my life — and honestly, they are a huge part of why I still genuinely love what I do. Seeing a cricket club thriving in an Irish energy organisation also says something powerful about the value of diversity and inclusion in a workplace. Different cultures, backgrounds and experiences don’t just strengthen organisations professionally — they enrich them personally too. They create opportunities for people to connect, learn from each other and feel that they truly belong. Sometimes a simple screen beside a lift can remind you of all of that. Congratulations to the EirGrid Cricket Club on a brilliant achievement 🏏👏
May 2026More great progress on the Celtic Interconnector works with the recent landing of the DC cables at the French landfall and the 2nd marine cable laying campaign underway. Great collaboration by the teams in EirGrid Group and Réseau de Transport d'Électricité to achieve the works to date.
