Last week in Hilton Head was a great reminder of why I love doing this work. I had the opportunity to lead an EOS® Workshop hosted by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce as part of their Small Business Week activities. We had a room full of business leaders discussing how to strengthen their businesses using the proven EOS tools and processes. What stood out most was the participation and openness of the attendees. Great conversations, thoughtful questions, and leaders willing to engage with one another around the real challenges of growing a business. The Chamber did an outstanding job organizing the event and bringing together such a strong group of local business professionals. Thank you! To top it off, I was also able to attend the Chamber’s End of Small Business Week Block Party celebration later in the week. It was another great opportunity to network, meet new people, and experience the energy and momentum within the Hilton Head business community. The other highlight of the week was spending time with the leadership team at Delta Roofing LLC during our EOS Worldwide Vision Building Day. These sessions are always exciting because this is where leadership teams step out of the day-to-day and truly work ON the business. Together, we sharpened their long-term strategy, gained laser focus around their marketing direction, clarified the most important priorities for the next 90 days, and aligned around key goals and objectives for the remainder of the year. It’s always a pleasure working alongside teams that are committed to growth, accountability, and building something great. Hilton Head continues to feel like a special place for both my family and now my EOS practice as well. #leadership #hiltonhead #workandvaction Trent Williamson #openandhonest #workshop #tennis #golf
May 2026A CEO I worked with years ago told me, "I sleep at night because you're worried for me." That line reframed the whole job for me. It's not about the reports. It's about being the person doing the worrying so the rest of the team can do the building. After 15+ years in the CFO seat — now at EOS Worldwide — here are 11 reasons being a CFO is harder than it looks: 1. You kill good ideas to make room for great ones. Capacity is finite. Not every idea earns Rock status, and that's the point. 2. Excel mastery isn't the superpower. Knowing which numbers *not* to track is. A clean Scorecard beats a busy one every time. 3. The deliverable isn't the deck. It's the narrative that wins over the board and the CEO. 4. Spreadsheets look clean. The real risks and rewards hide in the footnotes nobody reads. 5. The numbers everyone agrees on are usually the most misleading. The job is saying "no" more often than "yes." 6. Being liked isn't the goal. The best CFOs are respected — even when they're the one who has to be the bad guy in the room. 7. Your real product isn't reports. It's peace of mind. The CEO sleeps because you've got the future covered. 8. You're not a yes-man. You're the CEO's conscience — willing to disagree without being disagreeable. 9. Small risks become big threats fast. Spotting them first — putting them on the Issues List before anyone else sees them — is productive paranoia. 10. Sometimes you have to crush someone's passion project with math. Do it with empathy. But don't avoid it. 11. Every "no" isn't about saving dollars. It's about saving time — the scarcest resource any business has. One of the hardest seats in business. And one of the most important. At EOS Worldwide, we help leadership teams get better at running their companies. Being the CFO of the company that helps tens of thousands of others run better is the best seat I've sat in. May 2026One of the biggest differences between leadership teams that scale successfully and those that stay stuck is not strategy, it’s not talent, it’s not even execution. It’s the ability to be Open and Honest with each other. In EOS, the foundation of everything we do starts there because without it, the real issues never get solved, teams dance around difficult conversations and people leave meetings frustrated instead of aligned. Here’s how I define it during sessions with leadership teams: OPEN: "The ability to receive a tough message from another leadership team member without becoming self-defensive" HONEST: "Having the freedom and mindset to simply say it… without hesitation." But let’s be honest… For many leadership teams, the word “conflict” carries a negative connotation, so lately, I’ve started reframing it a little differently: Thank you to the phenomenal new book in the EOS Worldwide Mastery Series: "Issues...Remove Friction, Fast Track Your Growth and Ignite Your Greatness" Jill Young Sue Hawkes Mark O'Donnell 👉 GET SPICY. Seriously. Ask yourself: Do your leadership meetings include healthy spicy debate? Does your approach to solving issues include the spice of transparent truth-telling? Adding spice to food makes it tastier and better but it also introduces a little edge, surprise, and risk which is the same is true for leadership teams. Great teams are willing to lean into uncomfortable conversations because they know what’s on the other side: ✔ stronger trust ✔ faster decisions ✔ real accountability ✔ better problem solving ✔ scalable growth Bland teams avoid the heat and Spicy teams solve the real issues. The highest performing teams I’ve worked with are not the teams with zero conflict, they are the teams that trust each other enough to challenge each other directly. Real growth happens when leaders stop: ❌ protecting egos ❌ avoiding discomfort ❌ talking around the issue And start: ✔ addressing the elephant in the room ✔ saying what everyone is thinking ✔ solving issues at the root Because all progress truly does start with telling the truth. May 2026I was standing in a room full of Houston entrepreneurs running on EOS Worldwide last month and someone said, "I didn't know anything like this existed here." That's exactly why we built it. Two big things to share: First, the Houston ENRG chapter now has a home. Our landing page is live. If you know a founder who's stuck, scaling, or just finally ready to be in the right room, send them here: https://lnkd.in/gsfVQeEh Second, this Friday. May 15th. 8:30am. Ion District . ENRG HTX is back for our May meeting. No pitches. No fluff. Real conversations with real operators who are building real companies. Peer issue solving, EOS tools in practice, and people who actually get what you're going through. This is a free event. Doors open at 8:20. If you're running a company with 10 to 250 people and you've ever felt like no one warned you about how hard the middle part is, this room was built for you. Becoming a member through the landing page takes two minutes and keeps you connected to everything we're building in Houston. Lesa A Skipper , Erick Garcia , and I are putting a lot into this. We'd love to see you Friday. #Houston #EOS #Entrepreneurship #ENRG #LeadershipTeams #HoustonBusiness
