View source post“Keep your head up – You’re doing everything right and good things WILL come.” These were the words of advice I gave my son recently. He will be attending UNC this fall and had applied for well over 100 scholarships, often applying for 2-3 per day for weeks on end. Despite being a top student with >4.7 weighted GPA, great ACT/SAT scores, more volunteer hours than I could even imagine at his age, even graduating high school with an associate’s degree, he had received 0 scholarships. Then came the senior banquet, where many of the local scholarships were announced. One by one, his friends – many of which he had helped in school or dragged to service hours – got award after award while he again sat on the sideline, again zero scholarships. Nothing hurts this kid … but this did. This was my unbreakable kid, the one who got hit by a car while riding his bicycle to school, and picked up the broken bike and walked the rest of the way (we never did find the hit and run driver who went into oncoming traffic to hit him). But, I could tell this one hurt him – he poured his heart and soul into these applications and had nothing to show for it. We’ve all been there – I have and I’m sure you have too; where you have done everything right; but have nothing to show for it. If that feels like you, let me repeat this for you. “Keep your head up – you’re doing everything right and good things WILL come.” In his case, good things came faster than we could have expected. Just days after the senior banquet, we got a call that one of the applicants for a major scholarship wasn’t able to accept it, so they re-reviewed all the applications across the state and picked ONE additional winner – him ( Jace Renshaw ). It was a moment of joy and relief for him. In life and in business, rewards rarely show up this fast. The lag time between your effort and your payoff can be brutal, but the compounding effect of hard work and integrity is real. If you’re grinding in the dark right now and feeling unseen and underappreciated, keep moving forward. Keep making a difference. I’m rooting for you, too … and good things WILL come! #MondayMotivation , #UNC , #ProudDad
May 2026A huge thank you to our Advisors for your active participation in the EPRI GET SET Workshop 2026. It was a pleasure to connect in person, share our latest updates and developments, and most importantly hear your perspectives on needs, challenges, and opportunities across the industry. We also greatly appreciate the collaboration with NERC and NATF in bringing together the joint GETs Workshop. It was an honor to have Mark Lauby and Kal Ayoub join us and share their insights on the role of Grid-Enhancing Technologies. A very special thanks to our Affinity Group members for your engagement and valuable contributions throughout the event. Finally thanks to our leadership Andrew Phillips , Aidan Tuohy , Drew McGuire, PE and SMEs Justin Bell , Gary Sibilant , Alberto Del Rosso , Anna Lafoyiannis , Jason Anderson, Ph.D. As we move forward, we remain focused on advancing the understanding, testing, and field validation of GETs. Our goal is to continue building confidence grounded in facts so utilities can make informed decisions and accelerate the deployment of these critical technologies. Looking forward to continuing this journey together. #GETSET #GridEnhancingTechnologies #GETs #Transmission #EPRI #Collaboration #EPRI
May 2026Excited that next week EPRI ’s Transmission Council will convene its first International Transmission Executive Forum, co‑hosted with Réseau de Transport d'Électricité in Paris and Lyon (May 20–22). This marks our first forum outside the U.S.—bringing together global transmission leaders to exchange insights on expanding capacity, workforce challenges, and new technologies. We’ll also visit Réseau de Transport d'Électricité ’s dispatch center in Paris and training center and HVDC lab in Lyon. A great step forward in strengthening global collaboration and impact across the transmission industry.
May 2026Hope you can join us in Denver in June for the ESIG (Energy Systems Integration Group) Summer workshops! Some of the themes are continuing efforts that have been around for years. The "Forecasting and Meteorology in Power Systems" Workshop is on its 19th year this year, having started way back in 2008. Excited to hear about the latest advancements in renewable forecasting and I love to hear how each year the system operators are thinking up new ways of utilizing probabilistic forecasts for improved operation while forecast providers are developing new ways of delivering those to those users. New this year are topics on smoke and wildfire public safety shutoff forecasting, infrastructure damage prediction, and of course forecasting large loads like data centers operationally. https://lnkd.in/gRbQYVSQ But some themes are new. ESIG started the Advanced Grid Solutions Users Group this year as a way to share experiences on both advanced hardware and software technologies and solutions. We will be looking at roadmaps, discussing how far AI in power applications have come and what else may be needed, discuss frameworks for advanced transmission technologies, and get an inside view on the expanding set of advanced technologies and what applications they can be used for. https://lnkd.in/gaiDekyY Other topics include integrated economic and reliability focuses in planning models, flexible interconnection of large loads, and maintaining stability with introduction of many large loads. Hope to see many colleagues and new folks in Denver!
May 2026Well done to the amazing EPRI team, utility advisors, technology providers, NERC, NATF and Other stakeholders. An amazing 3-day event that will make an impact for the industry and society. Well done Victor. Thanks for your leadership.
May 2026Excited to join Robinson Meyer on the Shift Key podcast to discuss our new paper with Ryna Cui and colleagues published in Nature Reviews Clean Technology: “Impacts of the Inflation Reduction Act and One Big Beautiful Bill Act on the US Energy System.” The episode tackles a question that’s been hanging over the energy and climate community: After all this legislative back-and-forth, the biggest climate law in U.S. history, then a partial repeal, what has it actually bought us?
