Watching this orchestra video made me think about the side of leadership we discuss far less: what responsibility does the team have in supporting leadership? Most leadership conversations focus on the leader’s responsibility to create culture, inspire teams, provide clarity, show empathy, remove barriers, and drive engagement. And all of that matters. Leaders absolutely shape the environment and set the tone for trust and alignment. But leadership is relational, not one-directional. A conductor can set the vision, tempo, and direction. But if the orchestra chooses not to play together, trust the interpretation, or carry their part of the performance, how much can the conductor realistically do alone? Not every challenge is solely a failure of leadership. Sometimes teams are reacting to fatigue, past experiences, competing priorities, or uncertainty. And sometimes individuals simply resist alignment regardless of who is leading. At the same time, supporting leadership should not mean blind loyalty or silence. Strong teams still challenge ideas, raise concerns, and provide honest feedback upward. The healthiest cultures balance trust with constructive challenge. There is also a human side to leadership we do not talk about enough. Leaders can become isolated, expected to carry constant emotional and operational pressure while continuing to support everyone around them. So maybe strong teams also ask: • Do we help carry change instead of resisting from the sidelines? • Do we create alignment instead of side conversations? • Do we extend trust before every detail is visible? • Do we challenge respectfully while still supporting execution once decisions are made? • Do we recognize leaders are human too? The best performances happen when both the conductor and the orchestra are committed to supporting each other. Because in the end, even the best conductor cannot create a great performance without an orchestra willing to play together, and even the most talented orchestra still needs a conductor to keep everyone moving in the same direction and playing the same music.

Apr 2026Finished my first week with a Saturday meeting at NVA Canada headquarters for the Algonquin Division’s Best Practice Day. The theme was Adapt. Grow. Repeat. 🌱 — and it couldn’t have felt more relevant. The past few months have brought a lot of change, both professionally and personally. I’ve been reminded that it’s not just about navigating change, but learning how to use it as a catalyst to move forward. It was also my first time stepping back into an office in over 3.5 years and meeting colleagues in person (some I’ve worked with for years). That alone was incredibly refreshing. The event itself was thoughtful, well-executed, and full of valuable insights. Looking ahead, I’m excited for what’s to come and for the opportunity to support my clinics as they adapt, grow, and take on what’s next.
