What a great event celebrating Native American Student Success at University of Nevada-Las Vegas today. Thanks to Tammi Tiger for inviting me to join in recognition of the great things native students and faculty are doing to support community and culture in academic excellence across the campus. Tammi has been an instrumental force in creating relationships and infrastructure to support native students in their educational journeys at the UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hospitality and beyond. Much of this is made possible by generous funding from Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation . And a HUGE congrats going out to Dr. Jacob Coin for receiving an honorary doctorate in Public Policy from William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada-Las Vegas for his career spanning 30 years in advocacy and policy in tribal gaming, governmental affairs, and strategic philanthropy. I’ve had the honor of working with and learning from Jake for five years, and I’m better because of him. Check out the press release on Jake's recognition here --> https://lnkd.in/gMwDy8UH . Congrats to all of the students, faculty, and families celebrating the hard work to get here!
May 2026The Hidden Weight of Experience: Why "Tough" Isn't One-Size-Fits-All There is a growing dialogue on LinkedIn about the current state of the job market. We hear it from all sides: "It’s tough out there." And it is. Whether you are searching for your first entry-level role or your final executive seat, the friction is real. However, we need to have an honest conversation about the nuance of that struggle. Lately, when seasoned professionals share the unique hurdles of being an "older worker" in this economy—navigating age bias, shifting tech landscapes, and salary compression—the response from younger generations is often a quick, "Yeah, it’s tough for us, too. It’s not about age; it’s just the market." While the sentiment of solidarity is appreciated, the reality of the two positions is fundamentally different. The Luxury of Time vs. The Weight of Responsibility For a professional in their 20s, "tough" usually means a frustrating delay in starting a journey. If the current path isn't working, there is still a massive runway ahead. There is time to pivot, to spend six months relearning a stack, or to completely switch industries. Often—though not always—there is a safety net of fewer dependents or the ability to move back home while regrouping. For those of us further along in our careers, the "toughness" carries a different kind of gravity. It’s not just about us; it’s about the ecosystem we support. The Pivot is Heavier: It’s not that we can’t learn new skills—we’ve been doing it for decades. It’s that we don’t have twenty years to wait for that pivot to "pay off" before retirement. The Stakes are Higher: Many of us aren't just looking for a "job"; we are the primary providers for families, college tuitions, and aging parents. We don’t have the option to "move back into the basement" to find ourselves because we are the ones providing the roof. The Pressure of Expectations: When you have 20+ years of expertise, you are often viewed as "overqualified" for the roles you can get and "too expensive" for the roles you want. Bridging the Gap This isn’t about winning a "who has it worse" contest. Every generation is facing its own version of economic whiplash. But we must acknowledge that for older workers, the margin for error is razor-thin. To my younger colleagues: We hear you, and we know the struggle is real. But please understand that when we talk about the difficulty of this market, we aren't just talking about a career setback. We are talking about the immense pressure of maintaining stability for everyone who depends on us, at a time when the runway is getting shorter. Experience is an asset, but in today’s market, it can feel like a heavy pack to carry. Let’s make room for a little more empathy for the different weights we’re all pulling. #CareerDevelopment #JobMarket #Ageism #WorkplaceCulture #Leadership
May 2026Hey everyone, I got tired of the usual corporate Mad Libs and "synergy" speak, so I decided to rewrite my bio to reflect how I actually operate. I’m looking for some unfiltered feedback from my network. Is it too much? Is it not enough? Does it make you want to hire me or call animal control? Check out my new Strategic Chaos Architect bio below and let me know what you think: Strategic Chaos Architect | Product Owner | Bear-Fighter Aggressive and highly effective Product Management veteran with 20+ years of experience refusing to let corporate nonsense derail a sprint. I specialize in high-stakes environments where "the impossible" is just a Tuesday. I am a master of radical transparency, reverse-engineering complex systems, and physical team defense. I don’t do "fluff," and I don’t do "synergy"—I do work. I will fight a bear to buy my developers the 4.5 minutes they need to push their code and escape through the fire exit. I hit the nail on the first swing, every time, whether I’m driving a roadmap or driving a literal nail. I am the guy who once spent three days reverse-engineering a door just to master the internal mechanics of the lock, the latch, and the hinge—and now I know exactly how a door works. I am also the guy who can manufacture effective weaponry out of standard office supplies should the work environment turn truly hostile. If you are looking for someone who enjoys "circling back," attends meetings about meetings, or thrives in the warm embrace of inefficiency, look somewhere else. I am here to identify the objective, eliminate the friction, protect the team, and move the needle by any means necessary. If you want a profile that looks like everyone else’s, hire everyone else. If you want the guy who guards the door and ensures the team survives the sprint, you’ve found him.
May 2026Having enough excess cash in your company is the secret weapon for great CEOs. 3 advantages: 1) Cash creates confidence. 2) You can buy a competitor. 3) You mave many attractive options on where to invest. Cash = oxygen in your business.
Apr 2026At this stage of my job search, I’ve officially entered what experts might call the “strategic chaos” phase. Less “carefully tailoring each application” and more “launching resumes into the void like confetti at a parade and hoping one lands in the right inbox.” I used to research companies, align my experience, maybe even write a thoughtful cover letter. Now? If the job title has at least two words I recognize and doesn’t require a PhD in astrophysics or the ability to bench press a sedan, it’s getting my resume. I’m not applying anymore. I’m broadcasting. Somewhere out there, a hiring manager is going to open their inbox, see my resume, squint, and think, “Well… this guy again. Sure, why not.” And honestly, at this point, that’s the dream. It’s not desperation. It’s efficiency. High-volume opportunity distribution. Resume-based manifesting, if you will. Eventually, something’s going to stick. And when it does, I’ll nod like this was all part of a very intentional, well-executed plan. Notice: This content is intended as satire. Apr 2026Yogi Berra is a favorite, because of his malapropisms. A few favorites: 1) "Nobody goes to that place any more. It's too crowded". 2) "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half if physical."
