I get a good sense of AI adoption in China when random strangers in the lift discussed AI news and even a lawyer created his own reports using AI because it’s made so easy. Lunch conversations were about our vibe coding experiences. Just like the high speed train here, AI developments are not just swift but widely adopted and embedded into day to day lives. For instance, Doubao 豆包 is ByteDance’s flagship AI assistant who’s a chatbot, search assistant, writing tool, voice assistant, image/video generation layer and agent platform It’s like ChatGPT + TikTok ecosystem + China-localized superapp distribution. It launched in 2023 and exploded in 2025–2026 with estimated 150M–345M monthly active users, making it China’s largest AI app. Always good to be in China catching up with the Experian teams and keeping up to speed on the latest developments. Being here in Beijing this week is also interesting as Trump makes his first visit to Beijing today after 9 years. Photo: On the high speed train to Shanghai - my favourite way to travel. May 2026Amazing celebrations and inspiring sessions at the Experian EMAP Sales Conference in Cape Town a week back. A proud moment celebrating our top sales achievers across the region — a true reflection of the grit, resilience, and teamwork that delivered another successful year for EMAP, despite a challenging environment and external headwinds. Especially proud to see Benjamin Oh from our East Asia market clinch the Elite Award - bravo and big congratulations once again! Beyond the celebrations, it was a valuable opportunity to connect with global / regional leaders and colleagues. Hearing firsthand what matters most as we push forward — clear strategies, focused execution, and learning from diverse market stories — gave us practical insights we can take back and apply in our own markets. We also made time for meaningful team bonding. Cape Town offered so much to appreciate - from its rich African culture and refreshing weather to incredible food and breathtaking landscapes. From seals basking along the waterfront to scenic coastal drives featuring ostriches, baboons, and antelopes, beaches dotted with penguins, and even sightings of the Big Five on safari — every moment was a reminder of just how special this place is. Apr 2026Credit is never just about money. It’s about opportunity. After more than 20 years in credit and decisioning, one thing remains clear to me: behind every credit file is a human story. In Malaysia, many people earn, pay rent, support families and run small businesses, yet are still considered “thin file” or “unscoreable”. Not because they are risky, but because our systems haven’t fully kept up with how people actually live and earn today. This is why open banking - and open finance more broadly - gives me hope. It shifts the question from “Have you borrowed before?” to “How do you manage your money every day?” When people can securely and voluntarily share their data, we see discipline, resilience and responsibility that traditional credit reports often miss. Encouragingly, this direction is also reflected in Bank Negara Malaysia’s continued advocacy for open finance, as part of building a more inclusive, progressive and resilient financial system for our country. To me, financial inclusion isn’t about lowering standards. It’s about raising understanding - using better data to make better, fairer decisions. Experian Malaysia has shared more of these perspectives in our 4‑part blogpost series on Open Finance for Malaysia, where we explore how open data can support inclusion, responsible lending and sustainable growth. I’d love for you to read and share your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/gRxKhrG6 When we get credit decisions right, we don’t just fund growth. We unlock potential. #OpenFinance #OpenBanking #FinancialInclusion #CreditInnovation #MalaysiaEconomy #ResponsibleLending #Experian #FutureOfFinance #DataForGood

Apr 2026First time to USA? Here’s some useful travel tips … Travel - Download Uber and Lyft. I found that Lyft is cheaper on many occasions. - Both apps have programs where they give rebates or discounts on rides (and there’s usually a free trial period. - Due to the TSA queues, go earlier to the airport. Sign up for CLEAR+ (free trial available) to bypass ID Checks. - There’s no free trolleys at the airports (need to rent), so avoid too many handheld luggage. Hotel - Name on my credit card is different from my passport name. I was unable to use that credit card for my imprint for two different hotels. Please bring a credit card that shows the same name. - Tipping is expected at the hotel too though some hotel add standard amount (in my case US$5 per day) in the final bill. Check with reception to see if you need to tip separately. Food & Shows - As I had extended my weekend in New York, I tried to go to some famous eateries, jazz club and standup comedy. Reservations in advance are definitely needed. - If you are watching broadway, there are discount tickets that you can buy from TKTS for same-day deals, TodayTix for app-based rush/lottery offers, and check Broadway Week for seasonal 2-for-1 promotions. Apr 2026Is an entrepreneur born or made? I had an interesting discussion with my old friend whom I bumped into yesterday, who shares my passion for entrepreneurship. My own view is that - the commercial acumen/instinct or street smartness might be a bit hard to teach. Though arguably, if one has the right experiences from young, it will come more easily or can be nurtured too. - the business frameworks and skillsets like the business modelling, financial management, organisational planning, tech, communication, marketing, sales etc are trainable. ❓So how to get entreneurship into a play-safe system like Singapore, which has historically focused a lot on grades and get the radical changes across quickly? Here’s my ideas… - teach it from young Expose young children in primary school basic concepts .. like money, financial management, buy low sell high concepts, have practical hands-on projects on buying and selling goods or services. I have seen how kids naturally have that concept, some are selling snacks to each other from as young as 9 years old. - make entrepreneurship a PSLE subject (primary school leaving examination) Overnight, parents will get their hands dirty to teach (and learn), and many tuition centres will sprout to teach entrepreneurship too. For the many entrepreneurs here on LinkedIn , what do you think? Are entrepreneurs born or made? And how to get more entrepreneurs? #entrepreneurship #personaldevelopment #jenelim
