Last Saturday, I attended a Monthly Performance Review. (MPR) Even though these reviews are common features in most organizations, it is more pronounced in the banking and Finance sectors where it has found for itself, some level of notoriety. For the past twenty(20) years i have lost count of the MPR sessions i have been privileged to attend. Yes! Privileged! Not everyone gets the invitation. MPR,s can be "sweet" or "sour" depending on your Performance on assigned KPI's . The entire session can have you grinning from ear to ear in excitement when your KPI's are outstanding. On the other hand, you could sit through the session ; anxious, edgy and sometimes overthinking. You will quickly realize how good you are with speech rehearsals. It is dire and akin to awaiting an expected death sentence after a guilty on all counts verdict. An endless wait to hear your unit being called to the podium.4 In all my experience, I have come to the conclusion that , Monthly Performance Reviews are double-edged swords. They spur you on for growth and affords you a clear roadmap for success. It gives you the opportunity to take feedback from leadership and colleagues alike. A room filled with people who were once outstanding performers but have plateaued, people who have "found thier cheese" and firing on all engines, and people who are on the verge of burn-out. A cocktail of rich ideas, enviable professional practise and perspectives that has incalculable value. It is a platform to learn and hone presentation skills which often becomes a huge asset in one's treasure trove on the corporate journey. But the build up to it, can also be an unforgiving period of anxiety that blurs the line between professional achievement and personal well-being. As professionals in performance driven and demanding environments, it is imperative to plan daily, weekly and monthly towards achieving performance targets. That is the only way to "enjoy" the days leading to the session and to relish the moments of the session when it dawns. For those who have started climbing the coporate ladder and navigating the seemingly treacherous corridors, my advise: Take feedback in humility, Do not take feedback personal, Condition your mind to find feedback as constructive. Check your posturing when responding to questions from Executive(Exco) members and senior colleagues. Attitude and Mindsets are difficult attributes to hide. Worse! If you have a "Bad" one. Normalize asking for help from excellent performers. For pride as its said, always comes before a fall. Lastly, learn to CLAP for others when they are doing well, and be inspired to do better yourself. Let's Go!!!!! Apr 2026This week, as the Zonal Head for Brong-Ashanti for Universal Merchant Bank, together with my Divisional head Victor Opoku Brijuu , we embarked on official customer visitations with the Sunyani and Techiman teams. While the financial metrics are impressive, what truly stands out is the team spirit and cohesion amongst staff. The teams ability to manage and balance aggressive growth with a personalized touch, ensuring that our customers feel valued and supported was something that gave me great satisfaction and further boosted my confidence in our most valuable asset; OUR PEOPLE. Thier ability to adapt to new digital banking initiatives while maintaining strong interpersonal relationships is what defines the strength of our Zone and our brand. Success is a journey, not a destination and so as we move into Q2, I am confident that this same energy and professional rigor will propel us to even greater heights. Thank you for your loyalty to the bank and for being the driving force behind our success. Let’s keep this momentum going! Victor Opoku Brijuu Lioba Yamaale Guo #UMBAdvantage #UMBSpeed
