The Forescout Technologies Inc. team recently stood shoulder to shoulder with ReversingLabs and ExtraHop to support the joint Croatia–North Macedonia Blue Team during Locked Shields, the world’s largest live-fire cybersecurity exercise. Locked Shields puts real people, real tools, and real pressure together in real-world scenarios, testing how defenders operate when critical infrastructure is under attack and every second matters. Two takeaways stood out to me: 1️⃣ You can’t defend what you can’t see. You can’t move fast if your tools are disconnected. And you can’t protect critical systems without policy-driven control that adapts as risk changes. That is where comprehensive device intelligence becomes essential. Knowing what is connected, understanding its risk, and taking action in real time are foundational to modern cyber defense. 2️⃣ Cyber defense is a team sport. Collaboration and partnership matters. No single organization, team, or tool can defend critical infrastructure alone. The exercise reinforced the importance of combining complementary capabilities, from device intelligence and policy-driven control to network detection and malware analysis, so defenders can move faster and make better decisions under pressure. Food for thought this Friday. I’ve been reading and hearing more about vibe coding beyond tech circles, like in mainstream media and boardrooms. With Mythos pushing this conversation forward, it’s a good moment to separate what AI can accelerate from what still requires deep engineering judgment. As a software CEO, my perspective is this: AI can absolutely accelerate parts of development and cybersecurity. But that doesn’t mean every company should confuse speed with substance. The real question for leaders is: where does AI add value, and where do experience, architecture, and hard-earned context still matter most? In cybersecurity, that distinction matters a lot. Platforms built for complex, real-world environments are shaped by years of engineering, deep customer understanding, and learning from deployments in environments that are anything but simple. At Forescout Technologies Inc. , that means customer behavior learned from over 25 years of real-world deployments, proprietary threat intelligence (Forescout’s DPI has 200+ non-IP protocols and closed source rules), and a platform with 7M+ lines of code built to perform across massive, heterogeneous environments. AI will change how software gets built, and it should absolutely be part of solving our greatest cybersecurity and technological challenges.
