This week has been a roller coaster of emotions, but I made the decision to fill it doing things I normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to do. On Wednesday, I helped run Field Day at Woodford Christian School, where my two sons attend. In the morning I manned the long jump, and in the afternoon, the soccer accuracy shootout station. It was sunny (and a bit sneezy 🤧 ), but my kindergartener told me no fewer than a dozen times how happy he was that his dad was there for Field Day. On Thursday, I volunteered with Keller Williams Bluegrass Realty , where my lovely wife works, for their annual Red Day of community service. We spent our day helping at Lighthouse Ministries, sorting food cans for the pantry that helps the unhoused and underprivileged community in Lexington, as well as some cleaning and general maintenance tasks. It’s easy to get tunnel vision when on the job search, but my dad always said during hard times to take the focus off yourself and choose to serve others. You never know how that blessing will affect your attitude and outlook.
May 2026Speaking of elections, today and tomorrow are the last day to vote for Simon Law, PLLC in the Guide to Kentucky election for best Business Law Advisers. Please take two seconds and vote: https://lnkd.in/eMMm9fi8 Thank you!!!
May 2026Two candidates. One has the better resume. The other talks about the team before they talk about themselves, owns failures without excuses, and lights up when you ask what they've been learning. Most companies hire the first one. Construction defaults to competency, years in the seat, certifications, project history. Those things matter. They are the floor. The mistake is treating them as the ceiling. Skills can be taught. Character cannot. What we look for in a new team member is in the linked article.
May 2026I am proud to be part of this team and to help lead the effort as more than 2,000 employees came together to celebrate our number one core value: safety and quality of life first. More than 70 Gray Hourigan team members collaborated and helped plan the effort that’s carried this phase of the project into the second half of closeout. I’m proud of our team, proud of what we’ve built, and proud to see the finished product coming together soon.

May 2026Looking forward to speaking at the SelectUSA 2026 Investment Summit. I’ll be joining the Industry Spotlight: Design and Construction panel to share perspectives on the trends and considerations shaping the U.S. design-build landscape and the role our industry plays in supporting foreign direct investment. As investment in U.S. operations continues to grow, these conversations are critical to helping customers move forward with confidence. I look forward to connecting with others driving the future of foreign direct investment. Meet Gray at booth #1411: https://lnkd.in/g5shw7s9
Apr 2026Proud to see Gray’s continued commitment to developing the next generation of leaders in the construction industry through its $2 million investment in Eastern Kentucky University’s Construction Management program. As an EKU alumnus and a leader at Gray, this partnership is especially meaningful. It reflects the power of industry and higher education working together to strengthen talent pipelines, elevate workforce readiness, and create long-term impact for our communities and our profession. I’m proud to be part of an organization that invests in people, education, and the future of our industry. Apr 2026Investing in the next generation of builders is critical to the future of our industry. As an EKU Construction Management graduate, I’ve seen firsthand how strong academic programs paired with real-world experience can shape careers. Grays investment in EKU helps ensure students are equipped with the skills and opportunities needed to meet growing industry demands. I am proud to be part of a partnership that strengthens both education and the construction workforce. Go Colonel’s!!
Apr 2026Had an absolute blast last week at MTSU talking with CIM students about NexGen’s Concrete Division! Special thanks to Hunter, Drew, Ned, and Katia for setting this up and letting me tag along. Fun fact: All four of us are MTSU CIM alumni from different graduating classes. 🎓
