Google just dropped their official guide on optimizing for AI search. And honestly? After 5 years in SEO, my reaction was: "This is just… good SEO." Here's what they're actually saying, in plain English 👇 ✅ SEO is NOT dead (yes, again): Google confirmed that AI Overviews and AI Mode still pull from the same index, the same ranking signals. If you rank well in traditional search, you're already in a good spot for AI search too. ✅ Write content humans actually want to read Not content for bots. Not keyword-stuffed pages. Stuff your real audience finds helpful. A first-hand review > a generic "7 tips" listicle. That's it. That's the advice. ✅ Fix your technical basics Your page needs to be crawlable and indexable. No fancy tricks needed. Just don't block Googlebot and make sure your site loads properly. Things you can STOP worrying about: ❌ llms.txt files → Google says skip it ❌ "Chunking" content for AI → not needed ❌ Obsessively chasing long-tail keywords → AI understands intent now ❌ Buying fake brand mentions → doesn't work, never did The big myth-bust here? Half the "AEO" and "GEO" tactics circulating on LinkedIn right now are basically snake oil. Google explicitly called them out. My honest take: The SEO professionals who've been doing things right all along — quality content, clean site structure, genuine authority — are in the best position for the AI era. The ones chasing shortcuts? Same story as always. Stop overcomplicating it. Solve for the human. The algorithm will follow. 🔗 Full guide linked in comments.
