View source postIn the last day, twenty Heidis have asked whether they should move to our London or San Francisco offices. They don't want to leave Australia. But, the equity I give them as of 2 July 2027 is going to be taxed at roughly double the rate, with the proposed Capital Gains Tax changes in the budget. Founders are not the focus here, we'll be fine, this isn't about us. It's the incredible team that join later and hold that equity for less time. They're the ones most exposed to CGT indexation. As an Australian startup, we can't compete with Anthropic, OAI, Google or Atlassian on cash. What we offer is equity and a critically important mission. People take lower pay, longer hours and real risk in exchange for a piece of the upside if it works. If you make equity less valuable, you punish the engineers, designers and operators who took the risk to build something in Australia. They have global options, even within Heidi we have people considering a move. The US and UK have more capital and bigger markets. When Australian policy raises the cost of staying, people make the call. The companies don't disappear. They just get built somewhere else, and the jobs and the tax they would've paid goes with them. The Budget gets parts of this right. The R&D tax changes and early-stage venture support are real, and the right direction. We've been speaking directly with the Treasurer's office and Andrew Charlton's office, and the engagement matters. But you can't say you want world-class AI companies built in Australia while making it harder for the people building them to stay. Australia has one of the least diverse, least innovative economies in the developed world. Tech is the fastest-growing industry inside it, and already the 7th largest employer. The Government has committed to 1.2 million tech jobs by 2030. We're not on track, and these settings don't help us get there. Heidi was built in Melbourne. We employ orders of magnitude more people than our regional competitors. We support millions of global patient visits every week. I could have built it somewhere else. A lot of companies in our position do, and many ask why we haven't moved. The Minister rightly cares about home ownership for young people. In the small secondaries we've run so far, the first asset that our employees buy is a house. That is exactly the outcome the Government is trying to engineer. The most direct route to wealth is to let companies give equity to employees and let them sell it, take the money and become asset owners. There's still time to get this right. The Government is engaging with us and the sector. I'm hoping that we can get the maths to work for the startup employee in Melbourne who took the pay cut to bet on us, not just for the headline. https://lnkd.in/gWvM8-9z

May 2026Still buzzing from our first event in Cape Town! 🇿🇦 It’s one thing to see user growth on a chart, but it’s another thing entirely to sit in a room full of resilient South African clinicians and hear how Heidi is making a real-world difference. To our South African community, thank you for entrusting us, we are honoured to be by your side.
Apr 2026Revenue is a trailing indicator. The real metric is the trust and confidence of the clinicians we serve.
Apr 2026This is the beginning of a long, long story of how the world's most important healthcare AI business started in Australia. Yes, we hit $50M ARR (USD) faster than any company in Blackbird's portfolio. No, this isn't why we go to work every day. It's an urgent mission to double healthcare capacity. We will make incredible, cheap healthcare accessible to everyone and restore the delight for clinicians, admins and the organisations that take care of us. Healthcare is transforming faster than ever before and we're proud to lead from the front as the chosen AI Care Partner of so many organisations. https://lnkd.in/gnacpqHy P.S. We use Canva , and love it, sorry that you keep getting used as a comparison, the journos love a battle, we just want friendship.
Apr 2026A sure way to find myself obsessing over 'what I should have said' for the next 3 months - but hey, when Chanel Clark reaches out to you, you don't say no 🤷♀️ By that I mean, I'm excited (and mildly terrified) to be speaking at Marketers Day 2026 in Sydney! It’s 250 marketers, real conversations, practical thinking, and the kind of insights you can actually take back to work the next day. I'll be yapping on the topic of “Real World Strategy & Execution” with fellow executors Courtney Cusack , Toby Hilliam (Skilton) , Patrick Gregson , Matthew Rossi and Sophie Mckay . If you’re a marketer who cares about doing better work, thinking differently, and being in a room full of people who get it - this is one to be at. Get your ticket and see you there! https://lnkd.in/ghP5sFA7
Apr 2026Every dentist knows the frustration: you finish a full day of patient care, then spend another hour catching up on notes. This is why innovations like Heidi matter - not because AI is trendy, but because it gives clinicians back time for what they trained to do. Watching PortmanDentex's deployment closely - strong clinician engagement is always the real test of any new technology
