Attending the SGI CANADA 2026 Broker Convention in Saskatoon (April 16–18) was a fantastic experience—one that truly lived up to its theme: Connecting People, Creating Possibilities. As a proud reinsurance partner of SGI, HSB - Hartford Steam Boiler Canada has had the privilege of backing our products and services across personal lines (Home Systems Protection, Service Line, and Cyber) and commercial lines (Equipment Breakdown and Cyber). Being part of this event was an honour. From the outstanding hospitality and entertainment to the meaningful opportunities to connect, every detail reflected the strength of this broker community. A few highlights from our time in Saskatoon: • 1.5 days at the trade show booth connecting face-to-face with our broker partners—sharing insights, strengthening relationships, and learning directly from one another about what matters most. • Insightful presentations by Stephanie Banning , who helped demystify cyber exposures and reinforced the importance of combining OT/IT risk management with cyber insurance to stay ahead of an ever-evolving threat landscape and the “bad actors”. • Congratulations to Teralyn Nahorniak of Al Hattie Insurance , winner of the HSB prize draw basket—well deserved! • Recognition of the 10-, 25-, and 50-year milestone broker partners—an incredible testament to the longevity and strength of these relationships. Events like this are a powerful reminder that when we come together—sharing knowledge, listening, and collaborating—we truly create new possibilities for our clients and our industry. Looking forward to continuing these conversations and building on the momentum. Apr 2026A thought that occurred yesterday: spreadsheets won't get you to 20% growth. But people will. Yesterday, Munich Re Canada hosted Group CEO Christoph Jurecka and Reinsurance Division CEO Thomas Blunck . In the morning, our HSB - Hartford Steam Boiler Canada Executive Committee walked through our bold ambition. We are aiming for 15-20% growth as part of our 2030 strategy. Later in the day, I asked Christoph what stood out to him in his first 100 days on the job. He didn’t point to macroeconomic models or global scale. He said he was energized by the talent, the passion, and the drive of the people he had met. Hearing that from a former CFO was incredibly refreshing. An ambition isn't delivered through Excel models and PowerPoint decks. At HSB, this is where our entrepreneurial spirit takes over. Growth in a softening market requires blending deep technical engineering expertise with human intuition. It takes people who can look at an unformed risk, understand the physical or virtual reality of it, and craft a solution from scratch. This is exactly how we recently launched our AI Liability offering. Algorithms can organize and optimize for the known, but it's human instinct that colours in what we don't. Ambition 2030 isn't just a strategic milestone that stands on its own. It's also a talent mandate. #WeAreHSB #TeamMunichRe #Insurance #Leadership #FutureOfRisk
