Thank you to Rifat Chowdhury for lunch at Morgan’s and an unforgettable tour of J.P. Morgan ’s breathtaking new Park Avenue headquarters—an architectural marvel from every angle.
May 2026Attending YWCA Richmond ’s Outstanding Women Awards is always a highlight of my year. Being in a room with more than 680 of Richmond’s women leaders and male allies is incredibly inspiring—I leave every luncheon motivated to do better, be better, uplift strangers, and empower friends and colleagues. After listening to the powerful remarks from this year’s honorees, imposter syndrome inevitably sneaks back in, and I find myself amazed that I am a past honoree. What an extraordinary privilege to stand alongside women who are making real, meaningful change in our community.
May 2026Friends, I am incredibly humbled at being recognized as a recipient of the 2026 Ukrop Community Vision Award this year. Even moreso, I consider it a privilege to be honored alongside Allison Hunter (LMR ‘25), who is being bestowed posthumously, the LMR Leader Who Serves Award, recognizing a life of service, integrity and unwavering purpose. I hope that you will join me, alumni, the Leadership Quest Class of 2026 and their guests in celebration of Allison and the incredible impact of LMR in Richmond and beyond, at the Spring Alumni Reception on April 28th at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Apr 2026Kicking off a few days of great programming at the ABA Business Law Section Spring Meeting in Atlanta with a panel on in-house counsel’s role in the boardroom. Thanks to Katayun Jaffari for leading (and to Dredeir Roberts, Esq., AIGP for organizing) an interesting discussion providing practical tips for navigating different board relationships and processes. #ABABLSPRING
Apr 2026A common crisis -- one of your employees unknowingly makes a large transfer to a fraudster based on bogus billing instructions or the fraudster's impersonation of a vendor or coworker. A common coverage misconception -- "I bought cyber insurance; it will cover this." With fraudulent transfer schemes continuing to proliferate, ensure your insurance program is designed to cover this common risk (spoiler alert -- many do not, unless you've carefully filled this coverage gap at renewal). Alice Weeks , Madalyn Moore , and I discuss how to audit your insurance program for these common risks and what to ask for at renewal in our latest client alert. https://lnkd.in/gf2aJWZ3 #cyberinsurance #BEC #socialengineering #cyberfraud #cybersecurity
Apr 2026I'm not a Hokie. I didn't go to Virginia Tech and, save for my father-in-law, none of my immediate family did either. However, my previous jobs in the leaf tobacco industry, being Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services , and serving as Virgina's Secretary of Agriculture & Forestry and Secretary of Commerce & Trade afforded me to the opportunity to work closely with many folks at VT and two of the school's tremendous leaders, Charles Steger and Tim Sands , over the last two decades. That work and those relationships made me feel sometimes like a Hokie by extension on more than a few occasions. With the announcement last week that Dr. Sands would be stepping down, I had the chance to reflect, both privately and publicly, on the work I did with Dr. Sands and his colleagues at VT as Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Stephen Moret , and many others worked diligently to craft the package that helped land the transformational Amazon HQ2 project in NOVA. Dwayne Yancey 's Cardinal News editorial on Dr. Sands' departure captures well his willingness to be a key partner in that effort and how he helped to better define the important role that higher education plays in economic development. I don't know if Virginia won the HQ2 project because of VT's inclusion, but I'm certain it didn't hurt. So, thank you again, Dr. Sands, for your leadership of VT, helping further burnish Virginia's credentials as a top state for education, and your clear understanding how higher education can - and does - play a significant role in economic development and job creation. Godspeed to you and your family in whatever the future may hold. Finally, as a former rector of another major Virginia university's board of visitors, I know well the importance of empowering and keeping good presidents. I also know how difficult it can be to replace them. I wish VT all the best as they look to replace Dr. Sands. https://lnkd.in/eSg-2C2s

Apr 2026Loved working on this piece with Charlotte L. for Risk Management on risk management strategies for fine art! In this article, we explore how threats ranging from transit damage and natural disasters to valuation disputes and post‑loss missteps can undermine both coverage and value if they’re not addressed early. A few core themes we focus on: 1. Risk management starts well before a loss. Insurance is foundational, but effective protection requires advance planning, documentation, and coordination with insurers and trusted vendors. 2. Transportation is the leading source of claims. Nearly half of fine art losses occur in transit, making specialized handlers and policy alignment critical. 3. Policy terms matter in practice. Where art is displayed, how it’s used, and how it’s valued can all materially affect coverage. 4. Post‑loss decisions shape outcomes. Prompt notice, careful documentation, and understanding your policy are essential to recovery. One key takeaway: insurers are increasingly focused on pre‑loss risk mitigation—working with policyholders to identify vulnerabilities before a claim ever arises. If your company collects, manages, or handles fine art, the full piece goes deeper into how to build a comprehensive, insurance risk strategy. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e2xZZ-Hj
