IQ, EQ, AQ. For years, we’ve hired and promoted based on the first two. IQ is your ability to think, analyse, solve problems. EQ is your ability to understand people, build relationships, lead with empathy. Both still matter. A lot. But they assume a relatively stable world. AQ - Adaptability Quotient - is different. It’s how you respond when the problem isn’t clear, when the rules are changing, when what made you successful yesterday no longer works. It’s learning speed. It’s unlearning. It’s staying effective in uncertainty. And it’s quickly becoming the defining capability. The gap? Most organisations still assess for IQ and EQ… and assume AQ will just show up. It doesn’t. We’re working with clients to change that. Assessing adaptability in their current workforce. Hiring for it more deliberately. And shaping teams that can evolve as fast as the market demands. I find human behaviour and organisational behaviour fascinating. It’s why I do what I do. And I love getting into this with clients. Because the question is no longer “how good are you?” It’s “how well do you adapt when good changes?” If you want to know more, this is at the heart of our purpose at Hydrogen Group and Argyll Scott - it’s not bums on seats, it’s enabling our clients and candidates to thrive as their world change. Apr 2026Incredibly proud to see one of our team chair an AI roundtable in Hong Kong with CTOs, Chief Data & AI Officers, and P&L leaders from across financial services. Real conversation under Chatham House rules. The headline... A bucket load of investment and even more ambition!!! What was clear is that most organisations still haven’t cracked how to measure real return.. CFOs want hard numbers.. AI leaders talk about time saved.. P&L owners want revenue impact.. However as expected.. governance remains the tension point.. too much slows progress, too little creates chaos!!! Is balance the answer? I'm not sure whether I believe in balance for progress.. Companies that are wining at the moment are the ones who connect AI to commercial outcomes and align leadership around it. + hit GO! Great to see our team not just in the room, but leading the conversation! Jason Lockwood , Argyll Scott , Hydrogen Group
