It was a pleasure to host Prof. Eric Granger from École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in the #STARS team at Centre Inria d'Université Côte d'Azur ! We had the opportunity to attend an insightful talk on " Multimodal Affective Computing in Videos for Personalized Digital Health". The presentation explored how multimodal AI models—leveraging facial, vocal, textual, and physiological signals—can advance affect recognition for applications in digital health, including stress, pain, depression, empathy, and fatigue analysis. The talk also highlighted exciting research directions in multimodal fusion, weakly supervised learning, and domain adaptation for personalized video understanding systems. Thank you for sharing your expertise and for the stimulating discussions throughout the visit. We look forward to future exchanges and collaborations! #ComputerVision #AffectiveComputing #DigitalHealth #MultimodalAI #VideoUnderstanding #MachineLearning #AI #Research #Collaboration
May 2026What would you do with a swarm of 1,000 robots? That's the question asked within the Inria AIO team a few years ago, at the beginning of the OpenSwarm_eu project. In October 2024, I joined the ongoing project as a research engineer and gladly accepted the challenge to drive the DotBots Testbed to deployment. The goal was incredibly exciting: to build an ultra-large scale platform for research and experimentation in swarm robotics, featuring low-power, individually controllable, safely recoverable, and location-aware affordable robots that fit in the palm of your hand. The result of this multi-partner effort is a platform combining innovation on multiple fronts: - energy: each robot charges in less than 1 minute, for up to 3 hours of autonomy using a battery-free design - communication: low-latency individual control for hundreds of moving robots in a "mini 5G"-like architecture over a BLE radio with a custom link layer - localization: a lighthouse-based onboard algorithm computes mm-level positioning at 10+ Hz, up to 100x cheaper than traditional vision-based mocap systems - reprogrammability: a hardware-protected bootloader ensures that remote programming robots is safe even in the presence of faulty firmware It was a pleasure to coordinate with partners Inria , KU Leuven , and Analog Devices to bring the testbed (hardware and software) from PoC to deployment and to scale from 10 units up to 725 connected DotBots. Huge thanks to the incredibly talented OpenSwarm team: Alexandre Abadie , Said Alvarado-Marin , Martina Balbi , Lowie D. , Yinghao Gao , Roderich Gross , Mengyao Liu, Filip Maksimovic, Amy McMahon , Genki Miyauchi , Kate ORiordan , William Pereira , Luiz Sampaio , Yuxuan SONG , Mohamed S.
