IJM has helped drive the largest documented reduction in slavery and violence in the world, and we're working to protect 500 million people from ever being harmed in the first place. LinkedInRisk Assessment

When Was the Last Time Your Boiler House Risk Assessment Was Actually Used? A boiler house risk assessment shouldn’t be a static report. It should be a practical working tool, owned, understood, and used by the operators who run the plant day to day. Recently, we delivered a Technical Boiler House Risk Assessment Workshop on site — working directly with operations, engineering, maintenance, and safety teams. Instead of a brief visit and a generic report, this is a collaborative workshop using your plant, your operating conditions, and industry‑informed templates to build a site‑specific, practical risk assessment. ✅ Joint review of real risks and existing controls ✅ Clear, actionable improvements — not just observations ✅ Real boiler house examples to align understanding ✅ A living document the site can update and rely on The outcome: Greater confidence, stronger compliance, and a risk assessment that genuinely supports safe day‑to‑day operation — created and owned by the site team. If you wanted to build or refresh your boiler house risk assessment today — where would you start? #BoilerHouseSafety #SteamSystems #RiskAssessment #HAZOP #IndustrialSafety #ByworthBoilers

New Feature Article! Recognizing the Line Between Support and Responsibility in Addiction Recovery How much responsibility should we take in someone else’s addiction recovery, and where do we draw the line? Supporting someone through addiction recovery is never simple, and one question keeps coming up: how much responsibility is too much? In this feature, I reflect on the fine line between being present for someone and unintentionally carrying a journey that isn’t ours to carry. While our instinct is often to help, especially when we care, that support can quickly become overwhelming, shaped by emotions, guilt, and the need to see someone get better. Drawing from insights shared by mental health professionals, including reflections from a recent relapse prevention session, the article explores the psychology behind helping, from the “helper’s high” to codependency and the illusion of control. It also looks at what meaningful support in addiction recovery should look like: showing up with empathy, setting clear boundaries, and allowing people to take responsibility for their own change. Real support means being present without taking over, and knowing when to step back. Supporting someone through addiction recovery is both a privilege and a responsibility. Throughout this article, I have explored the delicate balance between providing meaningful support and taking on too much responsibility, the psychological reasons why we feel compelled to help, and practical strategies for setting clear boundaries. From empathic listening to encouraging actionable steps, and from recognizing our own limits to maintaining our well-being, the essence of support lies in being present without taking over, helping others build their strength while safeguarding our own. So the next time you are supporting someone on their recovery journey, ask yourself: How much should I carry, and when do I step back? When does my care become enabling? And how do I honor both the person in recovery and myself? Supporting someone in addiction recovery isn’t about solving all their problems, it’s about walking alongside them, guiding when needed, and knowing when to let them take the next step on their own. New Feature Article! Virginia Naishoki on Kenya’s Mental Health Systems Falling Behind as Youth Speak Up More young people in Kenya are speaking up about their mental health, but the systems meant to support them are not keeping up. In this feature, I speak with Virginia Naishoki , a counselling psychologist and youth advocate, who reflects on the growing gap between awareness and access, and what it means for a generation that is finally finding its voice. From affordability and stigma to gaps in crisis response and digital coping spaces, the article highlights the realities many young people face when they seek help. “More affordable or free services are often heavily stigmatized. They are associated with being ‘mad’ or ‘unstable,’ which discourages people from seeking help due to fear of judgment and loss of privacy. As a result, people are forced to choose between affordability and dignity, and many choose silence.” - Virginia Naishoki It also looks at what needs to change, from stronger systems and investment to solutions that truly reflect how Gen Z lives, communicates, and seeks support. “My vision is a mental health system that is accessible, responsive, and free from stigma where seeking help is normalized and support is available when it is needed most. I envision a system that not only addresses individual struggles but also acknowledges generational and systemic influences.” - Virginia Naishoki Read the full feature here: https://lnkd.in/drB6r-3K #MentalHealthAwareness #YouthMentalHealth #GenZVoices #MentalHealthMatters #EndStigma #KenyaHealth #EmotionalWellbeing #EpicPulseMagazine
