Apr 2026See the product through the customer’s eyes. Simple advice. Extremely hard in practice. In theory, it means understanding needs, behaviors, and motivations. In reality, it requires something much deeper: stepping outside your own assumptions, expertise, and internal language. One of the most effective tools we’re taught by Prof. Christian Schulze is the persona technique — creating a clear, detailed representation of your target user. Done well, it forces you to answer uncomfortable questions: - What does this person actually value? - What frustrates them? - How do they really use the product (not how we think they should)? But even personas can become fictional if they’re not grounded in reality. You don’t truly understand the customer until you put something in their hands and watch what happens. Not what they say. Not what surveys predict. What they do. Because customers don’t experience products as features or strategies — they experience them as moments: - friction or flow - confusion or clarity - frustration or delight That’s where fast prototyping and MVPs come in — and the willingness to fail fast and learn the right way. Bridging the gap between intention and real experience is one of the hardest challenges in product and marketing. It’s easy to say “customer-centric.” It’s much harder to actually be customer-centric. And that difference is where great products are built. A great book to recommend on this mindset is Build by Tony Fadell #CustomerCentricity #ProductDevelopment #UserExperience #MVP #Innovation #Strategy
