Everyone talks about outsourcing like it reduces risk. It doesn’t!. It just changes who executes the work. When a lift fails, when the district is congested, when cleanliness drops, when tenants are unhappy… nobody says: “Call the service provider’s CEO.” They call the operator. That’s the part many organizations miss. You can outsource manpower, specialized services, parts of execution .. But accountability? Reputation? Customer experience? Those always stay in-house. That’s why I’ve always believed the real discussion is not: “Should we outsource or not?” The real question is: Do we still maintain operational control internally? Because once the Service Provider starts becoming the only source of knowledge, decision-making, and operational direction… you are no longer managing the operation .. You’re depending on them. Outsourcing can absolutely work well. I’ve seen it succeed many times, but this is only when there is a strong internal team that still owns: - Strategy - Standards/Specifications - Performance - Customer Experience - Decision-making Otherwise, the organization slowly loses visibility over its own operation. And usually, nobody notices until something goes wrong.

May 2026Outsourcing works—when control is stronger than the contract. A lot of organizations believe outsourcing means reducing involvement. In reality, the opposite is true. The moment operations are outsourced, governance becomes even more important: • Clear accountability • Measurable KPIs • Active performance management • Continuous operational visibility I’ve seen outsourced models perform exceptionally well in large-scale operations where speed, specialization, and scalability were critical. I’ve also seen outsourced operations deteriorate simply because the client assumed the contract would manage itself. It never does. The success of outsourcing is rarely determined by the vendor alone. It’s determined by the maturity of the operating model behind it. Strong operators don’t outsource responsibility. They outsource execution while maintaining control.
May 2026Retail is no longer just about transactional space; it’s about the urban experience. I recently had the pleasure of representing KAFD | كافد at the RLC Global Forum , where we discussed the fundamental shift in Saudi Arabia’s retail landscape. As the industry moves toward experience-led and lifestyle-driven models, our role is evolving to curate vibrant ecosystems rather than just leasing square footage. At KAFD, we are pushing the boundaries of what a modern urban hub looks like in the Kingdom, integrating retail into the fabric of the city to create a seamless, 24/7 destination. Looking forward to the next phase of growth in Riyadh’s retail sector. #KAFD #RetailLeadersCircle #Vision2030 #Riyadh #KAFD #RLC #UrbanDevelopment
