Labour and employment law has rarely been more relevant than it is today. Hybrid work, workforce mobility, AI in the workplace, changing employee expectations, and new regulatory pressures are reshaping how organisations think about people, risk, and leadership. That is why exchanges like the ABA International Labor and Employment Law Committee Midyear Meeting are so valuable — they bring practical, cross-border perspectives to issues that are very much on every employer’s agenda. It was a pleasure to join the discussions in Prague and reconnect with colleagues from across jurisdictions. May 2026I was really glad to have had the opportunity to speak on the main Czech TV economic programme "Události, komentáře z ekonomiky" on ČT24 on Saturday evening. The full version is available via the link in the first comment. Together with journalist Jakub Musil and Rene Samek from CzechInvest , I discussed the current state of foreign investment in the Czech economy, the long-term causes of stagnation and possible solutions — covering industrial zones, labour shortages and permitting processes ( #NIMBY and beyond). My key message: the Czech Republic needs not only well-prepared industrial sites and a predictable incentive framework, but sustained political will to actively attract and support investors. I also argued that the municipal revenue-sharing system (the so-called RUD) needs reform — so that local communities see investors based in their area as a genuine benefit that helps improve the local environment, not a burden. Beyond this, we need to watch the IMPACT OF NEW TRENDS, as the rules of the game for foreign investment in Europe are changing fast. FDI SCREENING, the FOREIGN SUBSIDIES REGULATION and the emerging logic of "RESILIENT EUROPE" will fundamentally reshape investment flows — shifting the question from "where are resources or capital cheapest" to "where are resources or capital strategic and secure". Countries that understand this shift and position themselves accordingly will win the next decade of FDI competition. #ForeignInvestment #CzechRepublic #CzechInvest #FDIScreening #FSR #EUCompetitiveness #IndustrialPolicy Státní investiční a rozvojová společnost, a.s (SIRS) Sdružení pro zahraniční investice - AFI Kinstellar Jan Michal
May 2026Europe should consolidate its stock exchanges and build a single, unified capital market. The U.S. model demonstrates the logic clearly. The NYSE and NASDAQ attract the world's largest IPOs regardless of where companies are headquartered. SpaceX, targeting a valuation of $2 trillion, is expected to raise upward of $80 billion − in New York. OpenAI, valued around $1 trillion, will also list in New York. Contrast that starkly with Europe. Individual markets are modest. The largest IPO in Prague in 2025 raised just over €100 million. Even the biggest EU-wide listings can reach only low single-digit billions. The valuation gap with U.S. counterparts is enormous. The structural reasons are well known: 27 different regulatory regimes, tax systems and labor laws. Fragmented markets. A banking sector that dominates over equity. Household savings aren't being put to work. Late-stage funding rounds above €100 million are chronically underserved. The result is that founders increasingly leave − relocating to London or the U.S. to access capital. In January 2026, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed “EU Inc.” at Davos − described as the most significant change to European corporate law in decades. The proposal would allow entrepreneurs to register a single legal entity operating across all 27 member states. Whether it delivers is another question. Entrenched local interests and national politics have derailed similar efforts before. But the direction is right. Without the ability to raise meaningful capital at scale, European companies cannot compete globally. EU Inc. may be imperfect, but something like it is necessary. What’s your view − is EU Inc. the solution? #IPO #PE #CapitalMarkets #Kinstellar #EU
