At Roaring River yesterday my 12 yr old daughter Lola spotted an Amish family in the bait & tackle shop and immediately hit me with the side-eye stare. Then she rushed over and, like a career ventriloquist barely moving her lips, whispered, “Mom… what are those Silver Dollar City people doing here?” 😂 Honestly, it turned into one of those parenting moments that reminds you kids aren’t born understanding different cultures and ways of life — they’re curious. Sometimes loudly curious in public. It actually opened up a really good conversation later about the Amish community, respecting differences, and how easy it is to assume everyone we don’t understand is just “in costume” for our entertainment. Also shoutout to the Amish dad for laughing harder than I did while I stood there trying to leave my body. Kids keep us humble… and apparently provide teachable moments in bait shops.
May 2026I have been slammed but couldn’t forgo a post mentioning that I ended April with 14 closings. 🏡 So here’s my post gym selfie to say I had a great month! Couldn’t do it without my amazing referral partners, team, friends, family, and clients who put their trust in me!
May 2026Sometimes things look scary, but it could be what strength-building looks like! Standing on Banyan Drive in Hilo, Hawaii, I was struck by the “scary” beauty, strength, and sheer scale of these incredible trees. What makes the banyan tree so unique is not just its height—but how it grows. Scary, really. Its branches send roots downward from above. Those roots reach the ground… Take hold… Then become additional trunks. Over time, one tree can expand into what looks like an entire forest. The largest one on the Islands is spread over an entire acre. That is what success looks like… Great success starts with one strong root: values, discipline, and purpose. The banyan teaches a powerful leadership lesson…. Success is rarely one breakthrough moment. It is the result of consistent roots growing deeper and wider over time. Relationships. Character. Faith. Work ethic. Resilience. The trees lining Hilo’s Banyan Drive began as saplings in the 1930s and now form a massive canopy that has withstood storms and even tsunamis. Build roots strong enough to support the future you are called to grow into. Thank you friends and colleagues for helping provide such strong roots! #Leadership #Success #GrowthMindset #Resilience #LeadershipDevelopment #WorkEthic #PurposeDriven #Hawaii #BanyanTree #PersonalGrowth #LeaderOne
Apr 2026One of the most misunderstood drivers of margin in mortgage banking: Relationships, relationships, relationships matter. Most people treat them like a soft skill. Networking. Staying in touch. Being “liked.” That’s not what I’m talking about. In capital markets, relationships determine: • Who shows up to bid • How competitive and aggressive production is priced • How flexible and expense they are when things go wrong And more importantly… What happens when the market turns. Because when liquidity tightens, you find out quickly: - Who’s still there - Who’s pulling back - And who’s willing to work with you That’s not networking. That’s margin protection. The lenders with the most optionality win. And optionality is built through relationships—long before you need them. P.S. I say it three times in Protect The House for a reason: https://a.co/d/0g94E0q8
Apr 2026Home. ✔️where I had my 5th birthday party and H.S graduation party. ✔️where I sat with a broken leg as a kindergartener and watched cars go by. ✔️where I sold vegetables near the road from our garden and held garage sales for money. I recently went back to the home where I was raised nearly 40 years ago as the youngest of 5 siblings, because my brother wanted to be buried in the town where we grew up - Kalamazoo. Standing there, I was reminded that none of us have had perfect circumstances. More often, success begins in humble places that teach you lessons you carry for life. That home taught me more than I realized at the time. Work starts before the world wakes up. I can still remember watching my father out early in the morning plowing gardens before heading in to manage his shoe store. People always come first. He didn’t just work a job—he served people, built relationships, and treated every customer with respect. Nothing meaningful is handed to you. Hard work was expected. Effort was normal. Excellence was earned. Then there are setbacks that are teachers, not roadblocks. The path to leadership is rarely straight. Failures, detours, and difficult seasons are often what shape the strength to keep fighting and keep getting better. It reminded me of my setbacks that became steps forward: 🛑Wanted to help the community as a policeman, but realized the stress on the spouse, even as an MP. 🟢Became a mortgage banker and love helping people get into homes! *so thankful for those in law enforcement and their families! 🛑Wanted to go to one preferred college, but got rejected. 🟢Took a long path through community college, the military and Wright State University with mentors that changed my life. 🛑Wanted to get an internship at Ohio Statehouse but got passed up. 🟢Became a mediator for the city and met the person who got me into Mortgage. 🛑Wanted to help make it work at the first lender where I started but had to leave. 🟢A Realtor friend asked me to interview at another company she felt gave better service and it changed my career. So many people assume successful leaders had a perfect path. The truth is often the opposite. Leaders like Howard Schultz and Sam Walton built extraordinary careers from ordinary beginnings, fueled by resilience, grit, and an obsession with serving people well. Going back reminded me that where you start does not define where you finish. But it often defines the values that get you there. Never forget where your work ethic was born. #Leadership #WorkEthic #HumbleBeginnings #SuccessMindset #PeopleFirst #GrowthMindset #Character #LeadershipDevelopment #kvcc #Sinclair #WSU
