One of the most misunderstood architectural decisions in Microsoft Dynamics 365 is choosing between Custom Actions and Custom APIs. A lot of teams still treat them as interchangeable. They’re not. The difference impacts: Integration quality API design Security boundaries Maintainability ALM & versioning Long-term scalability In this article, I break down: ✔️ The real architectural difference ✔️ Why Microsoft is clearly moving toward Custom APIs ✔️ When Actions still make sense ✔️ Practical enterprise use cases for each approach If you're building modern Microsoft Dataverse solutions, this is a decision worth revisiting. 🧠 Article: https://lnkd.in/dfjrhx46 Would love to hear how other architects and D365 developers are approaching this in real-world projects. #Dynamics365 #Dataverse #PowerPlatform #MicrosoftDynamics365 #SoftwareArchitecture #API #CustomAPI #CRM #DotNet #EnterpriseArchitecture #PowerApps #TechLeadership

A quick observation from recent enterprise conversations: Many teams think they’ve bought “24x7 support” from Microsoft. What they’ve actually bought is: • 1-hour response for Severity 1 / A • Continuous 24x7 effort Both are clearly defined in the Unified Support description. What’s not defined? Resolution time. And that’s usually the metric operations teams care about most. There’s another nuance: The model is case-driven and escalation-based. It’s not designed for engineers to step in and own issues through to closure inside your environment. That capability exists, just not in the base tier. So the real question for 2026 planning isn’t: “Is Microsoft support good?” It’s: “Does it match how we measure success: response or resolution?” Because most environments I see were bought for one… …and expected to deliver the other. #EnterpriseIT #Microsoft #ITLeadership
