Apr 2026I never considered what I am doing now is a form of “reinvention” Until I went to one of Rosie Nixon 's brilliant Reinvention Retreats on Friday 30 women founders in a room Thank you Rosie 💚 And the word stayed with me “REINVENTION” It’s a word we don’t use enough Maybe because it sounds like starting over When really it’s just becoming the next version of yourself Women, men, founders, employees, we all do it We just rarely call it what it is We’re trained to think in one direction Progress. Higher. More The ladder, the next rung, the bigger title The ladder doesn’t tell you there’s another way up I have been an operational recruiter for 30 years Relationships, shortlists, the phone I was (am!) good at it I love it That was/is my identity But now I spend my days talking to tech developers I sign off tech stacks I write briefs for a product team I think about conversion rates and event tracking and whether the homepage is doing its job I’m still very much “in” finance recruitment But I’m not a recruiter every waking hour anymore What Friday made me see is that the hard part of reinvention isn’t the new skills It’s letting go of the old identity The version of yourself that worked The thing you were known for You have to be willing to not be that person anymore Nobody tells you that bit And maybe, if you loved what you did, you never fully leave it behind Maybe you always do a bit of both What would you do next if the ladder wasn’t the only way up?
Apr 2026Four hours. No phones. No agenda beyond honesty Every quarter for a year, a group of founders sat in a room and told the truth about what building a business actually feels like The wins, yes But mostly the stuff you don’t post about Thank you to my Boardwave cohort for the generosity of your candour, and for making the harder conversations feel safe Different businesses, different stages, same underlying questions And to Jose-Luiz Moura (JL) thank you for holding the space so well The best facilitators make it look effortless It isn’t Boardwave, you’ve built something quietly valuable here If there’s one thing a year of these sessions has reinforced The loneliness of building is optional You just have to find the right room Let's keep supporting one another 💚 Phill Robinson Kath Easthope
