Africa for Africans is more than a slogan. It translates into concrete actions that will transform our continent. Thank you Proparco for your constant support
May 2026Liquidity remains one of the defining topics for private capital in Africa and this was at the centre of the “Liquidity, Reimagined” panel I had the pleasure of moderating at the 22nd AVCA Conference in Nairibo. Thank you to Stephane Bacquaert ( Adenia Partners ), Adewale Odusanya, CFA ( Verod ), Richard Okello ( Sango Capital ) and Steve Iwenjora ( African Capital Alliance ) for an insightful discussion on how fund managers are approaching exits and liquidity solutions across the continent. The shared view was clear: while liquidity remains a key focus across the continent, sustainable outcomes are driven by disciplined value creation and structuring. A few themes stood out: · Exits are no longer limited to traditional trade sales. We’re increasingly seeing liquidity materialise through African capital markets, financial sponsor acquisitions and dividend recapitalisations. · Secondaries are also gaining ground. LP-led transactions are emerging as a pragmatic liquidity solution for investors seeking earlier exits, while GP-led secondaries offer a powerful tool to extend ownership of strong assets and optimise value. Still nascent in Africa, these structures are starting to gain traction. · Control matters. Maintaining a lead shareholder position gives fund managers the ability to thoughtfully orchestrate value creation and exit timing. · Finally, LP–GP alignment on liquidity is critical. As LPs demand discipline from GPs, liquidity planning must be embedded from day one at the portfolio company level. Ultimately, while macroeconomic stability shapes market sentiment, true exit alpha is created through fundamental value creation. #MCBgroup #AVCA #PrivateCapital #Liquidity

Apr 2026A strong outcome for MCB’s latest issuance in a demanding market environment.... USD 400 million 5-year Eurobond issued under our Global Medium Term Note Programme at 6.15%. Beyond the metrics, this transaction reflects continued confidence in the execution of our strategy, confidence in MCB’s credit profile, and the continued support of highly valued partners such as Proparco, DEG and FMO, alongside our broader diversified international investor base. My thanks go to MCB’s Strategic Funding Unit, and to our joint bookrunners - J.P. Morgan , Societe Generale , Citi , Standard Chartered and Mizuho - who did a fantastic job!

Apr 2026The Insightful Africa Economic Compass, developed by our Strategy, Research & Development Team under the leadership of Vicky Hurynag , highlights the tangible opportunities present on our continent. Jessen Coolen and team have once again emphasized that while we face external shocks, these challenges will foster greater resilience and serve as a stepping stone toward making Africa great. As we navigate an uncertain landscape, our dynamism, youthful energy, entrepreneurial passion, and quest for a better tomorrow will drive us to take us to new heights. This report demonstrates how our continent is embracing innovation in payments, utilizing multiple currencies rather than a singular one. The challenges we encounter are testaments to our potential for success. Africa is now, and the future is Africa. We are committed to pushing down trade barriers to unlock further opportunities for growth and collaboration.
