Lifestyle Medicine Week is a reminder that the future of healthcare cannot simply be more prescriptions, more procedures, and more reactionary care. We also need prevention. As a physician practicing lifestyle medicine, some of the biggest challenges I see are not a lack of information, but an overload of misinformation: • wellness culture driven by fear • extreme nutrition trends • chronic sleep deprivation being glorified • social media replacing expertise • confusion being monetized The evidence remains remarkably consistent: Nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, social connection, and avoidance of harmful substances significantly influence long-term health outcomes. The fundamentals are not trendy, but they are powerful. Lifestyle medicine is not about perfection or purity culture. It is about sustainable, evidence-based habits that improve quality of life and reduce chronic disease risk. And in today’s environment, that may be the most important healthcare conversation we can have. #LifestyleMedicineWeek #LifestyleMedicine #PreventiveHealth #Healthcare #Physician #InternalMedicine #PublicHealth #EvidenceBasedMedicine American College of Lifestyle Medicine
May 2026This trend perfectly captures the current state of healthcare communication. Millennial PR Team: “Board-certified physician specializing in evidence-based preventive and lifestyle medicine.” Gen Z Social Team: “lifestylemaxxing 🔥” Humor aside, this reflects a real shift happening in medicine. Patients are increasingly overwhelmed by: • wellness misinformation • supplement marketing • influencer “experts” • pseudoscientific health claims • optimization culture with little evidence behind it At the same time, many patients are also looking for healthcare professionals who can communicate clearly, authentically, and practically. The reality is that many of the most effective interventions for improving metabolic health, cardiovascular health, longevity, and quality of life are not flashy: - nutrition - exercise - sleep - stress management - behavior change - social connection - preventive care That’s what Lifestyle Medicine is. Not wellness theater. Not grifting. Not fear-based marketing. Just evidence-based interventions that are often underutilized despite decades of scientific data supporting them. Healthcare communication is evolving, and physicians who can combine scientific rigor with modern communication will have an important role in rebuilding public trust. #LifestyleMedicine #PreventiveMedicine #Healthcare #Longevity #InternalMedicine #EvidenceBasedMedicine #PhysicianLeadership #MetabolicHealth #HealthcareInnovation #MedicalEducation #PublicHealth #Nutrition #Wellness
May 2026Fancy starting this Thursday, learning how the very best orgs and teams unlock their potential and reach new levels of performance consistently, quarter after quarter? I am running a webinar, starting at 9.15 UK, link below: Here's some of what I will share: Goals are how we define where we are going and how to get there; without them, we drift. Why the psychology/neuroscience of goal-setting needs to be understood by anyone who leads to unlock performance gains. Why goals are more than a start and end-point, and why it's important that you don’t dumb them down and develop the skill. Why aren't all goals of equal difficulty value/potential/risk, and why do you need to know the difference and be intentional about the separation? Why principles make you better at goals than frameworks, and what the principles that matter are. Why your goals and BAU need an intentional divide. How to make great goal processes and rituals cultural, to increase performance. Which manager skills, capabilities and values really matter to teams. You'll be encouraged to look for a gap, because if there is, there's an opportunity to get more from the people you have, improve your culture of achievement, and make work more enjoyable by design. There will be a Q&A as well. See you there. https://lnkd.in/eT8FerMf
May 2026Calling SSRIs “worse than heroin” is not healthcare advocacy. It is dangerous misinformation. Especially during Mental Health Awareness Month. SSRIs are among the most extensively studied medications in psychiatry and have helped millions of people manage conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, panic disorder, PMDD, and eating disorders. As a physician, I have seen these medications dramatically improve quality of life for many patients. Some benefit temporarily during difficult periods. Others require longer-term treatment. Both approaches can be appropriate depending on the patient. Are SSRIs perfect? No. Do they require proper prescribing and monitoring? Absolutely. Can discontinuation symptoms occur? Yes. But comparing them to heroin is scientifically inaccurate and ignores decades of evidence-based medicine. We should also acknowledge the broader reality driving worsening mental health: • Burnout • Financial stress • Social isolation • Inadequate mental healthcare access • Long psychiatry and therapy wait times • Poor insurance coverage • Workplace pressures The answer to the mental health crisis is not stigmatizing treatment. It is improving access to care, supporting patients earlier, addressing systemic stressors, and having honest conversations grounded in science instead of sensationalism. Patients deserve evidence-based care — not fear-driven rhetoric. #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthMatters #DepressionAwareness #AnxietyAwareness #SSRIs #Psychiatry #MentalHealthCare #Healthcare #Medicine #EvidenceBasedMedicine #ScienceCommunication #PublicHealth #Physician #DoctorsOfInstagram #HealthcareWorkers #Burnout #Therapy #Depression #Anxiety #HealthcareSystem #MedicalMisinformation #PreventiveMedicine #LifestyleMedicine #InternalMedicine #WholePersonHealth #HealthcareAdvocacy #BrainHealth #MentalWellness #PhysicianVoice
