Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the IEEE PES T&D Conference & Exposition in Chicago and engage with industry leaders, engineers, and technology innovators shaping the future of power systems. One message was very clear: the grid is changing faster than ever. With rapid growth in data centers, electrification, renewable integration, and digital infrastructure, power demand is increasing in an unprecedented way. This also means utilities and industries will need more installed capacity, stronger protection systems, and a workforce ready to manage a much more complex grid. It was a great experience presenting and discussing our work on “Upskilling the Protection Workforce with Functional Digital Twins”—a topic that is becoming increasingly important as protection, automation, IEC 61850, and virtual testing continue to evolve.
