If I hadn't started Mercury I would have started a new CRM. It was my second best idea and I can't believe Mercury uses SalesForce still! I am excited to back Lightfield to go fulfill my CRM dreams. Congrats Keith + team
Sep 2026The FDIC approved Mercury Bank, N.A.'s application for deposit insurance. That's the second major regulatory approval we needed before Mercury Bank can open its (virtual) doors. The OCC's conditional approval in April said our plan met the bar to become a national bank. Today's approval means the deposits inside it can be federally insured. Deposit insurance approval isn't a formality. The FDIC's review tests whether the institution behind those deposits has the risk management and operational discipline expected of an insured bank. Getting this approval is a validation of the work Mercury has put in to build the bank the right way. We still have work ahead before Mercury Bank actually opens (we're targeting a 2027 opening). But we’ve now had two different regulators independently dig into what we’re building and give us their approval. One big step closer to building the bank our customers deserve. *While we've received approvals from the OCC and FDIC, Mercury today is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.
Sep 2026The FDIC just approved Mercury Bank, N.A.’s application for deposit insurance. It’s the second of the three regulatory agency approvals we need to open Mercury Bank. The OCC said yes (conditionally) to the charter in April, and the FDIC just said yes to providing deposit insurance to our future customers. We still need the Federal Reserve to say yes to us becoming a Bank Holding Company before the bank opens. I started Mercury in 2017 because I wanted to build the bank I wished had existed when I was running my previous companies. Going from a fintech that partners with banks to a tech company with an actual bank has been the vision from the beginning. There’s still work between here and opening Mercury Bank’s virtual doors, which should happen in 2027. *While we’ve received approvals from the OCC and FDIC, Mercury today is a fintech company, not a bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column, N.A., Members FDIC.
Sep 2026Pretty excited about the new Mercury video ad. I know everyone is done with my voice on the previous ad :).
Sep 2026I just got back from Interrupt 2026, hosted by LangChain and it was great! Here are my key takeaways: The Mercury love is real. Multiple people I met unprompted told me how much they love Mercury. It's hard not to feel good about where you work when that happens. Incremental change is often harder than transformational. Ask someone to improve by 5% and they'll just work 5% harder. Ask for 50% and they're forced to think differently. Bottom-up AI adoption tends to optimize individual steps but you need top-down pressure to redesign the whole process. - Andrew Ng LLM Gateways are trending. LangChain launched their own. Kong was at the conference with one. Cloudflare, Traefik, Tailscale, LiteLLM. Everyone is competing to capture market share. Agent tracing is a different. One LangChain customer sent 50TB of trace data in a single day. That kind of scale broke traditional tracing infrastructure which is why LangChain launched SmithDB. Favorite stat: LATAM Airlines spends 31% of OpEx on jet fuel. Every AI initiative competes for budget against that number. Two types of agents to design for: long-horizon agents that work over extended periods vs. fast-response agents (like customer service) where latency is everything. Don't conflate them. Open models are coming. Expect a meaningful shift toward open-source models in the next year as frontier model pricing climbs. The Best agent builders = domain experts. The people closest to the problem are the ones who should be building the tools. Shoutout to Max Corbridge , Adrian Sanchez Castro , Conor Perreault , Justin C. , William Czaja, George Hurn-Maloney and others for the great conversations!
May 2026Do you want to give back to Salt Lake city? If so, Mercury has an amazing opportunity for a Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) officer. We are seeking a banking charter and need an experianced CRA officer to build out our CRA program. Builders wanted. https://lnkd.in/gW6uH-Ww
