Apr 2026There is a quiet tension that comes with holding multiple identities and never quite feeling like you fully belong in any of them. Vaisakhi is always a reminder of that for me, or rather other people remind me of that. I am South Asian. Punjabi. Sikh. Chamar. Not Sikh enough Not Punjabi enough And always aware of being seen as “other” Untouchable Despite the years I have spent showing up in Sikh spaces, contributing, serving, being part of the sangat, there has always been an undercurrent. A reminder. Sometimes subtle, sometimes not. That caste does not disappear just because we refuse to name it. Being Chamar is not something I discovered overnight. It has been a deeply personal journey. One that has come with questioning, unlearning, and trying to find where I fit when the spaces around me were not built with me in mind. Especially when it comes to belonging. It's not just about being present. It is about being accepted without condition. And for many of us from Dalit backgrounds, that acceptance has often been fragile, conditional, or absent altogether. This Dalit History Month, I am choosing to speak more openly about this. Not because it is easy.. but because silence has never protected us. If I am not considered “Sikh enough” to enter certain rooms, then I will build new ones. Spaces rooted in honesty, dignity, and truth. Spaces where people like me do not have to shrink or explain or prove our worth. Spaces where we already belong. Being Chamar is not just a story of exclusion. It is a story of resilience, of survival, of carving out identity in places that tried to erase it. It is a journey of being in between. But also of creating something entirely our own. And I am no longer waiting for permission to exist within it 🙏🏾
Apr 2026I enjoyed my recent conversation with Petra Bracko Mitchell on the new The Smart Factory Podcast: Powered by Catalyst Connection . We talked about how the next phase of manufacturing growth is being shaped by energy, infrastructure, and AI demand.
Apr 2026Hi new followers ✌🏾 I’m Neelam Heera-Shergill, founder & CEO of Cysters . But before any title, I’m someone who has had to fight to be here. I’ve lived through years of being dismissed in healthcare while navigating PCOS, Endometriosis, PMDD and miscarriages. I’ve struggled with self harm and survived 3 suicide attempts. Thankful to Maharaaj ji that I am still here. I’ve been free from this for several years now, but I won’t pretend the darkness never visits. It does. And I’ve learned how to sit with it. That reality shapes everything I do. Cysters was built from that place. From knowing that what I experienced is not individual, it is structural. Health inequalities are not accidental. They are designed, maintained, and too often ignored. My work sits at the intersection of reproductive health, mental health, gender based violence and racial justice. I’m deeply interested in decolonising healthcare, while being honest that I am still on that journey of unlearning and learning myself. This work is not about perfection, it is about accountability and growth. I’m also a Chamar. Caste and untouchability have shaped my life in ways many people in the UK still refuse to acknowledge. I’ve experienced abuse from within my own community because of my caste, and I’ve seen how caste based discrimination is quietly present but rarely spoken about. We cannot talk about equity without talking about caste. We cannot talk about justice while ignoring the systems that sit underneath it. & more recently, I’ve also been on the receiving end of online racism and gender based violence. So I took some time out. Not because I’m done, but because rest is part of resistance. Now I’m back. And I’m here to cause some necessary disruption. Because for me, this is about collective liberation. Not individual success, not performative change, but real shifts in power, access and accountability. I’ve spent over a decade building Cysters into a space that supports, challenges and reimagines what care can look like for marginalised communities. But the truth is, we still need more doors to open. More funders willing to invest long term grassroots sustainability rather just influencer led campaigns. More organisations ready to move beyond statements into action. More spaces where people like us are not an afterthought, but central to the conversation. If you’re serious about equity, about decolonising systems, about doing this work properly, let’s connect. And if you’ve been part of this journey already, thank you for holding this with me. We’re not done yet. 🙏🏾
Apr 2026“Happy flowers whisper quiet joy into the corners of the heart.” I finally felt like painting some happy flowers today after a tough and sad couple of weeks. My grandie girls often ask what my favorite color is. I always struggle to answer that question. I love so many colors for different reasons. But maybe it is pink, as I reach for it so often to express joy. Pink and yellow and orange and green so happily mixing together to create a little joy. #watercolorflowers . #paintingjoy #paintinghappy #pink #mckinneyx2designs
