Every time the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius returned victorious from war, amidst all the applause, celebrations, and praise, an attendant would whisper just five words into his ear: “Remember, you will die one day.” And remarkably, Marcus himself had instructed the attendant to do this. Not to be morbid. Not to diminish success. But to stay grounded. The Stoics called it Memento Mori — remembering that life is temporary. In today’s corporate world, this principle feels more relevant than ever. Titles change. Cabins change. Org charts change. Power shifts. The people applauding you today may move on tomorrow. And somewhere in the race for targets, promotions, visibility, and recognition, many leaders unknowingly lose something far more valuable: their humility, their relationships, their kindness, their humanity. When we remember that all of us are temporary visitors in this journey called life, something shifts. Egos become smaller. Listening becomes easier. Gratitude becomes deeper. People matter more than positions. Ironically, the leaders who remember their own impermanence often leave behind the strongest legacy. Not because they were feared. But because they were respected. Not because they were powerful. But because they made others feel valued. At the end of the day, very few people will remember our designation. But they will always remember how we made them feel. That, perhaps, is the real leadership lesson behind Memento Mori. #Leadership #Humility #LeadershipLessons #EmotionalIntelligence #ExecutivePresence #Culture #GrowthMindset #hrmusings #nandinivijaisimha
May 2026Pennsylvania is suing Character.AI after chatbot characters allegedly presented themselves as licensed medical professionals, including psychiatrists. In one case, a chatbot allegedly claimed to be licensed in Pennsylvania and gave an invalid licence number. Accuracy is only one part of the problem but the harder issue is representation. If an AI system can make a user believe they are interacting with a licensed professional, the governance question changes: What was the AI allowed to claim about itself? What professional-status language was blocked, monitored or escalated? And who owned that interaction once the user relied on it? As AI systems move into triage, support, advice, drafting and investigation workflows, organisations will need to evidence more than “a human was available” or “the model has guardrails”. Instead of asking “was AI used?” The question has moved to: “what did the AI lead the user to believe?” #AIGovernance #AIAccountability #HealthTech #AIRegulation #DigitalTrust

Apr 2026On April 18, an Executive Order was signed to accelerate the development of, and access to, psychedelic therapies for serious mental illness. The order prioritizes faster FDA review through priority vouchers, expands “Right to Try” access to investigational treatments, increases federal research funding, and promotes collaboration across agencies and the private sector, with a particular focus on providing these therapies for our veterans. This marks a major step forward for the psychedelics industry, aiming to remove regulatory barriers, expedite clinical trials, and enable faster rescheduling of approved therapies. Clearly this bodes well for psychedelics, positioning them as a promising, more widely available treatment option. MMS brings deep expertise in psychedelics, ranging from regulatory strategy to study level data, along with NDA submission support.
