The sub-$80m market just got more competitive. RLB's Q1 2026 data is clear. Tier 1 contractors are locked into major projects. The work below that threshold – typically where most Tier 2 and Tier 3 businesses live in – has more players chasing it. The natural response goes like this: bid more. Cover the pipeline. Stay visible. Meet more people. It's the wrong response. More bids into a more competitive market doesn't improve your odds. It dilutes your team, compresses your pricing discipline, and produces more losses – each one costing real money before a sod is turned. In 15 plus years of preconstruction, I never saw a stretched team price their best work. The bids that won were the ones the team had space to think about. The firms that will come out of 2026 in better shape aren't the ones who chased the most work. They're the ones who decided, early, which work was worth chasing. The pipeline isn't the problem. The yes is. #ConstructionLeadership #BidManagement #ConstructionAustralia #Tendering #GoNoGo
Apr 2026Leaning into Passive House again feels so good. I’ve been asking myself these past years why we don’t build better in Australia. It takes vision, investment and a whole lot of people up for the challenge… MODEL Fathom Group and WARREN AND MAHONEY are doing just that. Excited to be a cog in the wheel on this one and reuniting with some of the passionate people that made Gillies Hall a reality. #multiplexmoments #passivehouse #passivhaus #melbourneconstruction

Apr 2026I asked a room a simple question this week. "Does anyone know where iron comes from?" A few unsure answers. Then I told them. Exploded stars. The iron in your blood, the oxygen you breathe, the carbon — all of it forged through fusion. Through dying stars. Which means everything you need to do something meaningful is already inside you. The room went quiet. We'd spent the hour on the real reason people, projects, businesses fall short. Not capability. Never capability. It's the gap — that stretch between effort and reward where nothing seems to be happening yet. Where most people quietly stop. Staying in the gap is the whole game. It's not complicated. It's just hard. Thanks to the team at Urban Core for having me. Bean by Bean. #Leadership #BeanbyBean #Performance #Theclarityshift #WealthbyDesign
Apr 2026Debut on the mic for the Warringah Golf Club project update. Safe to say presenting might not be my long-term calling… however the project is coming along very nicely! Great progress on site and a big effort from the team at Prime Projects (NSW) Pty Limited to get us to this point.
