Recent UK AI Security Institute (AISI) evaluations show that frontier AI models such as Anthropic’s Claude Mythos Preview and OpenAI’s GPT-5.5 are rapidly advancing autonomous cyber capabilities. Both models demonstrated the ability to execute complex multi-step attack chains and advanced exploitation tasks with minimal human intervention. What does it mean for cyber incident management? The answer is "AI is compressing attack timelines from days to minutes". Organisations must therefore adapt faster by strengthening detection engineering, accelerating AI-assisted triage, improving telemetry and logging, and adopting human-on-the-loop response models. Initiatives such as Project Glasswing and Trusted Access also highlight the growing need for controlled access, governance, and oversight around advanced cyber-capable AI.
May 2026Saudi Arabia tried to buy itself a generational leap without putting in the work of building the foundations. $2.5 billion into LIV Golf — $1.1 billion in losses against $107 million in revenue. $50 billion into NEOM before suspending construction. The Line scaled from 170 kilometres to 2.4. $8 billion written down in a single quarter. The Public Investment Fund pulled LIV's funding last week. Four years of pouring water into a vessel with no bottom. Imagine if all that money would have been invested in education, infrastructure, sustainability, promoting local entrepreneurs, improving immigration, digitalisation and pushing for industry to start building and investing on the broad financial shoulders of the PIF? Looking back, every nation that successfully diversified its economy did it the other way around, and it took them 30 to 60 years. Japan rebuilt from rubble by obsessing over manufacturing process for three decades before a single product dominated globally. South Korea climbed from wigs and textiles through steel and shipbuilding to memory chips — each rung built before the next was attempted. Taiwan spent 14 years training engineers and building research institutions before TSMC existed. None of this was exciting. All of it was necessary. Saudi Arabia started with the exciting part. The assumption was that capability follows money. It doesn't. Money amplifies foundations. Without them, it just amplifies the speed at which things fall apart, kinda like AI does too. UPDATE: Several readers pointed out — correctly — that this post oversimplifies Saudi Arabia’s approach. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) operates as both a domestic developer and a global hedge fund, and the domestic side has produced real foundational results. Female labour participation nearly doubled from 17% to 36%. Non-oil GDP has grown meaningfully. A tech startup scene is emerging in Riyadh. These are genuine foundation investments, and leaving them out weakened the argument. #Foundation #Leadership #SaudiArabia #Vision2030 #Strategy #DigitalTransformation
